Thornblood® are creating A Live Download for Thornblood, Open World, First-Person RPG

patrons

Patreon page and public build is live! 13.8.18

For $1 or more you can download and play the v1.0 prototype game, featuring over 10 hours of fresh, first-person AAA grade RPG gameplay.

To play just click "DOWNLOAD LINK" in the featured tags
on the lower left side of the page, become a Patreon, choose if you want updates ($3 or more), and download!

We've built a playable pre-production prototype of our game with rubber bands, old jumpers, hopes, and dreams. We would like to share it with you, and ask for your help in making the game if you like it. We are a new micro studio dedicated to creating a fresh take on the first-person fantasy RPG. Our mission is to disrupt the open world RPG game market, and we need your help.

To get a flavor of the vision we can build together, I urge you to look at the 'plains-walking' part of the first video just below.  We focus on plains-walking, magic and dark secrets in a way no game has done.

If you need more encouragement, maybe you have a heart of darkness? We cater for all types, try the necromancy video below that. YOU can help steer the direction of the game RPG game YOU want to play.

That awesome stuff in the videos? It's all playable game. That's our idea of 'pre-production'.
It makes sense though. If we want to make a 100 hour game, 10 hours of quests, dialogue and game world seems about right for a pre-production game offering.

TELL ME MORE MY GOOD FELLOW

Our mission is to disrupt the first person fantasy RPG genre. To make something new and vibrant.

Or, to put it another way:
If you ‘really really want a new elder scrolls style game’, and you want something like shivering isles, ie new and vibrant, and you want it right now; this is the page for you.

In addition to whats in the the public build, in dev builds we have working missile weapons, bows, crossbows and a draft magic system. Along with pages of quests and dialogue we seek to get voiceover'd. What we need are funds to bring on a few more team members to make these features public facing.

In addition, we are dedicated to creating modding tools and making the full game as modifiable as possible. If you are a dedicated fantasy game modder, YOU can steer the tools and modding features you would like to see in YOUR ideal game.

All images below are in game screenshots taken on a 1070Gforce with 8 gigs video ram, as a stable playable PC download.

Project Thornblood is the working title of the project. You've undoubtedly guessed already, but just to make sure, the game is an open-world first-person fantasy RPG, with an unvoiced protagonist.
We are busy beavers, and, as we speak in fact, are at work on new features like a town watch, crime and pick-pocketing, magic and guilds.
Our art style will be honing in on a Celtic, Irish, Gallic, feeling, with a new and vibrant lore and setting.

If you've not played the prototype, you can download the game here for only $1 on Patreon.  The pre-production prototype contains ten hours or more of game-play. Yet, best way to support us is is to tell people about this page. Please share this page URL with as many gamers as possible.

$1 is a steal for 10+ hours of AAA gameplay. Yet $1 when it comes from a large number of people is a powerful development funding tool.
We have absolutely no development budget at this stage other than what is raised on Patreon. Yet, as you can see, we managed to make a AAA quality prototype. If you like what you see here, we really do need your help to move forward.

Thanks to everyone who pledges, we have some amazing things planned for Project Thornblood that otherwise would not be possible without your help. From the bottom of our hearts: thank you.

In-game, 1070Gforce, 8 gig VRAM. Mellowsigh Cottage, Greylaw Province.

Where will your journey take you? Bitterpit bandit camp, Greylaw, near Lake Brune.

How can I support you?

First of all, THANK YOU. Your support means a lot to me, and I’m incredibly grateful. By supporting the project you can create the game you want, and get playable access to it as it develops. By contributing to the Patreon - even as little as a dollar a month, you can help development on the game continue. We have absolutely no development budget at this stage other than what is raised on Patreon.

The single best way to support the project is to tell people. $1 a month over 100,000 people becomes a powerful funding tool. If you reach out and tell people they can get an awesome game for $1, then ask the people who tell to do that, after a while, something magic happens.
Plus support on Patreon gives us leverage to strike up potential publisher deals.

From Patreon, and Kickstarter we will progress to Steam Easy access and PS4/Xbox. YOU can make this game happen, and YOU can contribute to making this the open world fantasy RPG YOU want to play.

Other ways to contribute:

~ We would LOVE you see your live playthrough of the game and your live reactions. If you can upload these to youtube and send us the link, this helps us craft the game based on your feedback.

~ We would love to hear your FPS feedback on differing platforms. Along with bugs and errors.

~ If you can, $3-5 is our ideal minimum support level. That said, if you really need/want a copy of the Prototype and $1 is an issue we can see if we can arrange a free download, no problems.

All screenshots on this page are live gameplay, taken with a Gforce 1070, 8 gig.

The Season 1 Prototype has dungeons, caves and forts

Fellrock Fort, one of many dungeons, forts and ruins in the Greylaw area.

The Prototype has shrines to dark powers & mysterious beings. Shrine to Elfrage, Brightlands.

What will you do with the money?

I don't expect or assume anyone to contribute any more to this project than enjoying the pre-production prototype. However, if you feel like contributing more, it will all flow back into expanding the games features and content.

More support means a larger game. We have an entire continent mapped out that can be developed with enough backers and publisher support. Press [L] in game to see the potential long term scope.

As the project has no budget other than whatever is raised by Patreon, and further down the line, easy access or Kickstarter, this is money literally funding the development of the game project.

We currently have crossbows, bows, shape-changer magic, and weapons in materials covering pig-iron, forged steel, alloy and obsidian already BUILT, and ready to use, along with a draft magic system, but we lack the manpower to integrate into the gameplay

Donjon Tor, a bandit fort with in the Greylaw, showing mages guild towers, distant.

Whats in it for me?

By backing us you'll get rewards - for as little as $3/month, you will get access to regular updates of the project, including the magic system, summons, bows, crossbows, stealth, companions and new areas many miles in size that the public build players wont have access to.

At $10/month, you’ll join our esteemed Thornblood Backers List, which will featured in the game credits. You will get direct access to the team and what were working on. You can offer live feedback on what YOU really want, and thus are able to steer YOUR games process of creation.
If you have an idea you really want to see in a fantasy RPG game, back us to this level and we will build it for you.

There are many working features that are not in the public facing prototype, such as day and night, magic, summons, bows and crossbows, but these need financial support to integrate into public builds, and thus are going to go out to Patreon supporters.

A day and night system along with magic, summons bows and crossbows is present in the game but not ready for public release. Patreon supporters will get access to these features in season 2.

The Prototype has 4 differing 'draft' biomes, above is the 'Brightlands'.

All items on screen are usable. Ingame screenshot.

Why the Patreon?

With your direct support, we can continue to create content and develop the game, pay people a fair wage to create assets and voice-overs, and build a full team to move the game into Steam Early Access.
This game was built off 90 hour weeks for many months. We have no funding support and little budget. Yet, as you can see, we managed to make a AAA quality prototype. We think this is convincing, factual evidence that with YOUR support we can make a new Elder Scrolls flavor/type game. We also think the flair you will see in the prototype shows that sliver of 'shivering isles' like creativity in our more unusual game areas.

We believe, faithful and factually, based on the build time of this pre-production prototype we can make a first alpha game release within 12 months.

Trust me, when you see some of the things we have planned and some of the things we have built, but are not public facing, you'll want to play this game. Some of it is awesome.
And if you can hand on heart say, no its not, after seeing it, I'll do a Werner Herzog and eat my shoe on camera. But only one shoe. And only once.  (#1)

THE GAME

Thank you for playing Project Thornblood, it means a great deal to me that you have decided to give our game a go.

Please, we cant stress enough, please do read the readme before playing the game.

If this is your first time playing, I suggest playing until you reach the open world areas like the Brightlands to get a good feeling for the game.

Roadmap

Season 1 - Get it right now for only $1 on Patreon.

Season 2 - Bows, crossbows, weapon materials, axes, hammers,
hunting, ranger skills. + 10 hours of new voice-overed game-play (20 in total). Plus lock picking, sneaking and a developed crime system, town guards and the ability to attack or pickpocket ANY NPC.

Season 3
- Summons, a draft magic system, spellbooks, a new province, guild questlines. + 10 hours of new voice-overed game-play (30 in total).

Season 4 - Trial of the Gamesmaster AI, for providing adaptive and procedural quests. Full 15 square mile open-world game map private release, only on Patreon.

Season 5 - Muhahaha. If only we could tell you. Imagine that boss thing from Hellraiser, and the  "I have such things to show you", quote, but imagine that thing was friendly. And wore a jumper. Some sort of fluffy one. Like some kind of Scandinavian. Maybe. Anyway, Jumpers or no Jumpers, something to do with Planes-walking is probably involved.

Feedback

We live or die by your feedback. Please tell us what you like and what you don't about the game. Over the next few weeks and months community facilities like a trello board and discord will come online. If you have experience and want to volunteer as a community manager we would love to hear from you!

We've even got some questions for you, if your game.

~ How do you feel about the first cave intro area. We're on series 1, Prototype so there is no animated or CGI intro.
~ Did you find the audio globe at the start in the caves?
~ How easily did you find the first blacksmith?
~ What can we we do to improve THIS patreon page :)
~ Does combat work for you? Difficulty? Do we need difficulty sliders yet?

Votes on next steps

Please cast your votes for the community voted add-ons to the next version of the Prototype.

~ Time of day, dynamic light and dark,  and a wait screen?
~ Missile weapons?
~ Magic?
~ Facial expressions?
~ More quests and areas?
~ Other, (tell us!)

Specs

The prototype is 17 gig, and its built to need 4 gigs of video ram, but should work with 3 gigs. We recommend a 1060 or 980, but there are options in the main menu for turning down the graphics. This, it can potentially run on older machine

Potentially, we CAN pack and build bespoke versions of the game to run in on lower specs if enough people are interested.
Ie 2 gig VRAM and a lower graphics card like a 960. We would love to hear your FPS feedback on differing platforms. That's a lot of work though, work that could be spent on the main game.

We also have a 'devs' version of the game for ultra high spec machines, 1070-1080 etc. It looks about 15-20% better than the visible public build. This potentially -could- be set up for download.

Regards consoles, we DO have the game running on Xbox but cant give people copies at the moment for legal reasons. If that changes Patreon supporters can get an XBOX download link for testing.

The download and bandwidth

We have Steam key download facilities being worked on in the background. To get the prototype to you as soon as possible, we can offer a download link in the meantime.

There are two download links live in the Patreon posts/community section, and as a back up, a drop box link. If download is interrupted consider a download manager. Advice link:
https://www.ghacks.net/2014/08/03/download-large-f...

Please be aware the file can take up to 5 minutes to prepare the download as a zip

If there are any problems with the two links, please use the dropbox link, as a last resort. The dropbox bandwidth facilities max out at 250 gig a day. Refreshing each day. If you try and download the prototype from a link and there is an issue, we would really appreciate if if you can be patient and try again.

As soon as steam download facilities are live we will post more links.

Areas

There are 4 major game province areas. At the moment they are linked by mountain passes, or tunnels or city gates.

Press [M] for map to see the location of these access points. You start in the Greylaw and can access the Protectorate, Old Lydia and the Brightlands. Press [L] to see the world map and get a feel for the scope of the continent.

Season 1 of the Prototype has dungeons, caves, forts and towns. Hallen Tor, exterior.

Gameplay

The prototype perks and skills support fully freeform gameplay such as:

Stealth / Light,
Using the dagger, especially one handed, you give and take much more damage. Stealth becomes your shield, using vanish and retreating to heal, then closing to unleash a death blow. Some enemies strike hard and even you might need a shield or armor from time to time.
Some of the undead can see through all forms of stealth. (note, a known bug in v1.0 that's marked for a fix, means 50% of the time, you dont become visible on attacking, during the vanish period. Please consider manually uncrouching if your stealth is high).

Armour
Upgrading shield and armor skills, along with heavy armor means you can, especially when blocking, resist colossal damage, while looking for an opening. Using sword and shield you can block 'just in time', directly at the moment of an attack. Mace and shield commits you to slower blocking but can stagger foes.

Magic
Upgrading your magic skills lets you fight with summoned creatures and spells. There are places within the world where you can gain more magic and a ready supply in exchange for.. darkest pacts.

Merchant
Upgrade commerce, and trade then loot and profiteer! Along with a bit of pick-pocketing along the way perhaps.

Base level supporter

The prototype is ten hours and more of gameplay for $1.

Its an open world first person fantasy RPG with an unvoiced protagonist. 10 hours of gameplay is our view of a ‘Pre-production prototype’.

This tier does not include formal updates to the game, but there may be occasional updates to the public build over time.

Hero
$3 or more per month
You get a live link and access to the newest version of the project as it develops. We aim to release a new private build every month.

It will be the first version to show the magic system, new areas, creatures and other great content that the base tier players wont have access to.

This is not the same as the public build version. By supporting us at this level, you're contributing a full 10 cents/day to help keep those new features coming.

Paladin
$5 or more per month
The same as Hero above. In addition you get access to our 'ideas' builds.

These are areas where we test out sneaking, archery, magic, summons. Even small towns. Its a sweet little present in addition to private build updates. Your feedback is our treasure, at this tier.

This is our ideal minimum pledge. If you think the project is awesome, please consider it.

By contributing a full 17 cents/day you can have peace of mind, knowing  you're supporting direct development of the game you want to play.

Legend

Awesome!  You get direct access to the team and what were working on. You can offer live feedback on what YOU really want, and thus are able to steer the games process of creation.
