Essay Reader
reward item

I originally started this Patreon account in order to write essays for my patrons. These essays are about confidence, writing, creativity and being online and are autobiographical in nature; drawing from my experiences over the last fourteen years.

Writing these essays has given me a greater insight into my creative process and they’ve helped me enormously in terms of pushing forward with my writing. But they don’t just help me. My readers have also found them insightful and they often feel I’m ‘in their head’ - strengthening my belief that we all have the same worries and mental blocks when it comes to writing and creativity.

Every single patron will receive a digital copy of this essay on the first day of every month.
Desk Stories
reward item
$2
per creation
In addition to the essay I mention in tier one, subscribers to this tier will also get a monthly blog post about my writing business.

These are the blog posts that I don’t want to mention online in public. I am going to use this space to write freely about my writing business in addition to my writing projects and my process. You'll get to hear about my plans, as well as detailing my goals, projects and tasks. Because I love writing about this stuff.

I've not really shared it before, other than snippets on Instagram, because often my thoughts aren't fully formed or I'm experimenting secretly or I'm doing something that absolutely scares the pants off me. So I thought I'd share it here in this private space.

As time goes on I intend to submit work to literary agents, to self-publish and to grow my mentoring business. These blog posts will give you an insight into how I put these plans into motion.
Weekly Diary
reward item
$5
per creation
Subscribers to this tier will receive everything mentioned in Desk Stories as well as a weekly diary about my writing and writing business. This could be a written update and/or a video update where I share my planning notebooks and strategies for the week ahead.

My monthly planning process is my favourite time of the month and my Monday morning planning process is one of my favourite times of the week. I sit with my planning notebook and work out exactly what I would like to achieve.

I’ll be looking at what has worked, what hasn’t, what I’ve read, what I’ve listened to or watched, in addition to the positives and the negatives and how I’m feeling about it all.

I’ll aim to share this every Monday.

About

Hello, I'm Helen.

Welcome to my Patreon page.

When I first created an online journal on Blogger fourteen years ago while struggling with post natal depression I had no idea how much it would change my life. I had gone from confident young career woman to a confused, overwhelmed and unwell young mother in the blink of an eye.

Unsure, I joined an online writing group with the aim of finishing the first draft of my novel. And I can honestly say that writing online saved me. It enabled me to explore new interests, gave me new friends, new skills, a new career direction, a focus and I became a writer. A word I never dreamed I’d use to describe myself.

I have gained confidence, skills and a writing voice. I have become aware of the mental blocks that are holding me back and can see these same blocks affecting so many creative people. Every day I fight through my fears so that I can keep writing and pushing forward to achieve my ambitions.

I've also taken a number of wrong directions (like when I set up a second blog - big mistake!) and a number of social media diversions (hello, Instagram and YouTube). But each time I'm always pulled back towards my writing.

Right now we are slowly coming out of lockdown after the pandemic of 2020. My anxiety and mental health has taken a hit so once more I'm looking towards writing as a way of saving me. I've taken a back seat from Instagram, temporarily stopped creating YouTube videos and have found that I have much more creative energy than I used to. I want to direct this towards my Patreon channel and my writing as a business.

I am going to use this space to write freely about my writing business in addition to my writing projects and my process. You'll get to hear about my plans, I'll share writing excerpts as well as detailing my goals, projects and tasks. Because I love writing about this stuff. I've not really shared it before, other than snippets on Instagram, because often my thoughts aren't fully formed or I'm experimenting secretly or I'm doing something that absolutely scares the pants off me. So I thought I'd share it here in this private space.

Every month I intend to write an essay about writing, being online or creative confidence and all the related mental blocks. These essays are why I originally started my Patreon channel and are why my original patrons came over here to support me. That is why they're available on the lowest tier.

On the other tiers I will have other writing or options available. Whichever tier you choose your support will mean I can continue writing my blog, Helen Redfern Writer, and it will enable me to create a self-published book of all my essays. I'm aiming to do this during autumn of 2020.

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
Goals
46% complete
My aim is to turn these essays into an inspiring self-published book about online creativity.  Reaching this goal will help me with the cost of putting this book together.
