About Henry Giardina

I've been writing and publishing for a number of years for outlets like The New York Times, The New Yorker.com, The Paris Review Daily and Film Comment. I'm a 2016 MacDowell fellow currently supporting myself at a minimum wage job and trying to summon up the energy to work on bigger fiction projects while continuing to write and publish essays.

As everyone knows, it's pretty hard to create work you're proud of and support yourself at the same time. Often a humiliating choice must be made between making work you love and being broke, and going to an underpaid, terrifying job, still being broke, and having less time and energy to create work.

What I'd like to start doing is try to make writing profits a stable third of my monthly income. Even if it covers no more than half of my monthly student loans, I'll feel a little bit better about life.

What am I working on, you ask? Well, in addition to nonfiction articles and criticism, I'm in the process of editing a novel about the life of Oscar Levant, a novella about early cinema, and an epic poem (yes) that is basically a re-working of the S.C.U.M. Manifesto.

But the proof is in the pudding: My published work can be found at my website, henrygiardina.com.

I'm saving up for a move and also trying to slowly build up my monthly writing-based funds. Your support--no matter what it ends up being--is insanely appreciated.
