Hi, I am HipCat,

My dream to create an artist access printery & gallery is now well and truly underway!

I've been a practicing artist printer since I was 16. Back in the day I did artwork for the Dead Kennedys art director John Yates. I did work for Memoria Pulp in Germany and got my work into the National Gallery of Australia before I turned 21. I've been at this for a while as I've just turned 48.

I print on some lovely old presses, I set type, I cut lino, I engrave wood. I'm producing artistsbooks & prints; editioning for artists and teaching people how to create and print by hand. I love teaching the myriad of techniques and disciplines within printmaking.I am fortunate that I am able to teach people, techniques which allow them to create the works that they have dreamed about and facilitate their saying the things which they need to say.

Thank you so much for coming with me on this journey, reading this far I hope you will consider becoming my patron, and supporting the arts (through me and through this project)...

$150 or more per month 0 of 20 patrons

Sponsor me in the creation of "one" or more of the artists books below and receive a personalised inscription in your signed copy which includes a thank you to you in the colophon page.

Current book projects I am undertaking and which urgently need support are:

  • In my Fathers Land, a concertina book about the dark father, based loosely on Jungian and post Jungian concepts of the poisoned masculine.

    This is ready to roll, I am short on money for the paper and inks.

  • The Forgotten Dead - An account of the life and tragic death of Lovell Glendower Tresham, formerly of the UK who immigrated to Australia in the 1920's. This is an account of his life in Australia, brief marriage and enlistment at the outbreak of WW2 into the 2/12 RAE. It details his capture at the fall of Singapore and survival of working at the Thai end of the Burma railway and his tragic death in the Rykuro Maru incident.

    My Grandmother was a young woman when she was in a post office in Calgary Canada with her mother. Great Granny received a letter, read it and said "Oh Dear, your brothers dead, you didn't know that you had a brother but you do and now he's dead". I spent ten years researching the mysteries of my Grandmothers life and was able to tell her Lovells' story before she died.

  • The Tommy of Palestine - The story of my Great Uncle Edward Finn, who as a British Prisoner of War was captured at Dunkirk and who survived 9 months in Auschwitz as detailed in his letters to my Great Aunt Mary.

    This is ready to print and only needs a little funding to bring it to the light of day.
  • Boggles - A concertina book about the life, flights and deeds of Boggles as recounted by his wife. They were at one time the only full time barnstorming act in the world. A warm account of traveling life in Australia in a biplane and a bus.

  • Tourettes for Beginners. The wisdom of St Dada Nana (Patron Saint of Child Suicides, Anarchists and other lost causes).

    Based loosely on the wit and wisdom of Oscar Wilde and Ambrose Beirces' Devils dictionary. It is aesthetically inspired by Tom Phillips groundbreaking "Dantes Inferno" artist book.

    Tourettes for Beginners is guaranteed to make you piss teflon. Based on "Things You Should Never Talk About" in polite (American) company; I have endeavored to write an intelligently offensive assault on the hypocrisy and control mechanisms of social acceptability.

    Topics covered include:
    * Religion
    * Abortion
    * Politics
    * Education
    * Money
    * Elites

    In development 1/5 of the way.
  • The Extinction of Faerie - A chronicle of the decline of the mythic realms. A bestiary of angels choking on air pollution, mermaids caught in drift nets, cyclops blinded by holes in the ozone among many others.

    In development for 28 years, I really need a benefactor to allow me to get this one finished.
  • Raining in Hell - An account of the "other" Ark which was built by Lucifer based on Gnostic beliefs. This book is for children.

    This is almost ready to print.

My artists books are held in the National Gallery of Australia, The National Library, AGNSW, State Library of Victoria and many other significant collections. I won't go so far as to claim that sponsoring one of these books would be a good financial investment but it may...

You will also receive:

  • Bi-Monthly Poster Club Membership
  • The Ex Libris Membership

Goals
$143 of $250 per month
When I reach $250 per month, I'll cry with joy then send supporters a wood engraved broadsheet based on the on the "desiderata"...

A sacred printed text that was at one point in time found on the toilet walls of most every house in New Zealand.
