The Homeless Charity 501(c)(3) seeks to meet the homeless where they are today to get them to where they want to go tomorrow by offering transitional support services that bridge the gap between street living and home living.

Our Day Center and Tent Village (Soon to be Replaced by Group Homes) serve as a drug-free community for the homeless, run by the homeless. Our day center offers three meals a day, a food bank, laundry facilities, showers, bathrooms, internet cafe, drug rehab classes and meetings, a makers school and storage for belongings. Our tent village offers safe, stable transitional housing under homeless self governance — helping provide purpose, dignity, community and a path for reintegration into society.

Our tent village was recently made illegal by The City of Akron. We are considering all options available to us. In the meantime…

Moving forward we will offer:
  • Transitional housing in tent city and in group homes, which provides the stop-gap sheltering service Akron’s homeless need as they wait for affordable housing. These transitional homes offer safe, stable housing under homeless self governance — helping provide purpose, dignity, community and a path for reintegration into society.
  • Homeless Day Center in downtown Akron’s Middlebury neighborhood offers three meals a day, a food bank, laundry facilities, showers, bathrooms, internet cafe, drug rehab classes and meetings, a makers school and storage for belongings.
  • Shuttle Service / Outreach offers rides to homeless people who often cannot afford a bus ticket or must travel far beyond bus routes. We give them rides to see doctors, therapists, drug rehab groups, housing managers, case workers, job interviews, to our day center and more. This service also takes us to people living in remote areas who are in needs of food, blankets, heaters, tarps, tents and other survival gear.

One of the innovations we bring to the homeless cause is that our cost per person is incredibly low.

A study by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development found it costs, per month:
  • $1,614 to house a family in a shelter
  • $813 for transitional housing
  • $881 for permanent housing
Our cost is $190 per person per month. That's $6.30 per night.

And as you will find in our resident interviews, people want to be at our facility. We treat everyone with dignity and respect.

10 Memberships at this level pays for a person to stay in our village. Plus some.
Platinum Level Membership
$50 or more per month 4 patrons
While this is just the cost of a cell phone bill, it is still a significant contribution.

A membership at this level more than pays for our car insurance for our donated minivan, which currently costs $35/month.
Inner Circle Membership
$75 or more per month 0 patrons
At this substantial level of membership you are having a direct effect on our program.
Because our overhead is so low, $75 goes a long way.
President's Level Membership
$100 or more per month 3 patrons
This level of giving is above and beyond. You are changing the shape and future of our organization.
All we can say here is: Thank you!
Goals
$816 of $1,000 per month
$1000/month will pay for 6 people to live at our facility, use our shower and laundry, get new clothes whenever they need them and have food.
