About

We are the House of Zolo, independent publishers of speculative literature. HOZ publishes literature with a special interest in speculative fiction, short story and poetry. We look for character driven stories that push against convention, fresh perspectives that reimagine the world and our place in it, provocative prose that challenges us with innovative ideas — excellent speculative writing by talented authors.

House of Zolo was founded in Toronto, Canada by a collective of writers and editors who wanted to create more space and profile for speculative literature. Our first call for submissions resulted in an avalanche of powerful work and we launched the House of Zolo's Journal of Speculative Literature, Volume 1 on New Year's Day 2020.  Volume 2 is in the editing phase and will be available in the Spring. Our first novel – Phreak, by the award-winning J. E. Solo — launches on February 2, 2020 (02/02/2020).

HOZ’s Journal of Speculative Literature, Volume 1 is an international collection of short stories and poems by some of today’s most compelling writers: Jessica Barksdale, Joe Baumann, L. X. Beckett, Melanie Bell, Jenny Blackford, Robert Borski, Shenoa Carroll-Bradd, M. S. Chari, Deborah L. Davitt, Joe DiCicco, Steve Dillon, James Dorr, Kevin Freeman, Amelia Gorman, Vince Gotera, Russell Hemmel, Richard Leis, E. H. Lupton, JBMulligan, Jennifer Loring, Sally McBride, Stephen McQuiggan, Laurel Radzieski, Samannaz Rohanimanesh, George Salis, Lucy Stone, Ojo Taiye, Cohl Warren-Howles.

Curated and edited by Nihls Andersen and Erika Steeves with guest poetry editor Jon Parsons.
