We've reached a point in our lives where we need help to keep our blog How to Fight Write running and we'd like to be able to do it full time. To do that, we'll need your help.

A single dollar is all it takes.

What You're Not Losing

Your questions. No matter what happens, we will never stop answering the questions which come into our inbox. Those answers will never be hidden behind any paywall. This isn't a loss, it's a gain. Helping us allows us help you. Our initial goals are to get ourselves back up to answering a question every three days and then every day with weekends off.

We will always do our best to help you with your fight scenes and your crafting of your characters. It's just harder to help when we can't eat or have no place to live.

What You're Gaining

Having a monthly income will allow us to keep putting out content at a regular pace and will allow us to diversify, and provide both our loyal followers and new patrons with even more content. Everything under the goal list will be provided free to our Tumblr, with Patrons getting early access.

We'll be able to do more, providing more services and more content on a wider variety of subjects. We'll return to doing articles on a bi-weekly basis, podcasts, and more rewards for those who choose to sign on with us.

Most importantly, it will be a return to regular content every week.

So, what's Patreon?

Unlike Kickstarter, Patreon is a subscription system. If you choose to become one of our patrons, then you pay the set amount that you did the first time every month. The different tiers listed below come with different rewards for those willing to offer up a little extra. However, our goals on the left column will be available to everyone once we reach the different thresholds.

So, even if you can only give a little bit, the more who give the more content we can provide. Some of the higher threshold goals are things we would love to do but require a more substantial monetary investment that we simply can't afford at present.

What we want is to be able to continue providing you with helpful aid for all your Fight Write needs.

Our stretch goals:

A return to regular columns

In the past, we were able to put out more tailored articles that were a little more indepth than the questions which turn up in our inbox. However those take time.

Media Reviews

I'm not going to start doing full sporkings, but there's a lot of media out there and it can be difficult to tell whether or not it might actually have material which will be helpful. If we can reach $2,000 then I'll start reading it so you don't have to.

Half the battle is finding media both to read and watch that will aid you in your writing endeavors. Sometimes, a full in depth review of material can be helpful to figuring that out.

Or it might just be entertaining.

Videos for visual breakdowns of media combat sequences

Consider this a super stretch goal due to the money and time investment, but this is something that I would personally love to be able to start doing and providing through Youtube. Talking about not just what is and isn't realistic, but instead how you translate what you see in visual media onto the page. Fight scene choreography runs the gamut from terrible to utterly breathtaking and, despite what some authors say, you really can have it all. I'd love to be able to talk about it and share my techniques when researching for my own writing.

Thank You! It may not seem like much, but a little goes a long way.
This tier grants you access to:
  • Our patreon feed
  • Early access to articles
  • Any podcasts we can and do make once we hit $500
Pledge $3 or more per month
23 patrons
An upgrade to three dollars nets you:
  • Access to a Patreon exclusive fight scene for reference.
  • I will be covering a variety of topics difficult to cover in discussion like fantasy, magic, superpowers that require heavy/specialized world building. However, I'll also run the gamut between "realistic" or real world to the high flung. Everything from the more outrageous, frenetic anime and wuxia style to thriller and survival horror. Consider it the show part of show versus tell. 500 to 1,000 words. One per month. (With a possible upgrade to two once we hit the higher tiers.)

In addition to all the other benefits, this grants you access to:
  • Google Hangouts with us once a week/bi-weekly, where we answer your questions in a free seminar environment. Come and discuss your questions live with us.

In addition to everything else, once a week, I will write media analysis of fight scenes that are exclusive to Patreon.
  • Breakdowns of how the combat works, how it flows with the narrative, how character traits are expressed, and it's importance to the story's overarching structure. In addition, I'll talk about what pitfalls are present and how you can avoid them.

You have access to all the above and you'll pretty much own our collective souls.
  • You will receive a personal thank you from myself and Starke.
  • A dedication at the end of whatever podcasts and videos we create.
  • A full written private answer (if that is your wish) between 1,500 and 3,000 words on whatever topic you want via email with follow up discussion if necessary OR I write you a personalized fight scene as a full short story. Whatever you want (within reason). Once a month.
Goals
$106 of $200 per month
With this, we move back to a regular schedule and on our How to Fight Write Tumblr, you get a question answered three days a week (M,W,F). We start making a real dent in our backlog and you get rewarded. I'll even start fumbling with my Twitter again.
