Humor and the Abject
is a weekly interview podcast about art and comedy hosted by me, Sean J Patrick Carney. It started in 2017 in Brooklyn, NY, and now I live in Austin, TX. Every episode begins with a brand new sound collage that I make as a tribute to the guest. There's also a podcast within the podcast, The DSA Podcast (Darcie, Sean, and Azikiwe) that is released every month with co-hosts Darcie Wilder and Azikiwe Mohammed. Subscribers on Patreon get access to exclusive video, sound works, writing, and are entered into the monthly Custom Sound Collage Lottery, where they can win a personalized piece from me. The funds help me purchase equipment, cover web hosting costs, and help me travel to interview people in new places.

If you want to listen to patron-only Humor and the Abject audio content through your podcast apps, use the subscriber-exclusive RSS feed on the top right side of this profile after signing up.

I've gotten to interview lots of people, including artists Chloe Wise, Alex Da Corte, and Pastiche Lumumba; comedians  Ana Fabrega (Los Espookys), Bowen Yang (SNL), Jaboukie Young-White (Big Mouth, The Daily Show), and Mitra Jouhari (Three Busy Debras); writers Adrian Chen (The New Yorker, Gawker), Amelia Gray (Gutshot, MANIAC), and Ross Simonini (The Book of Formation); musicians Geoff Rickly (Thursday), Jason Powell (Guantanamo Baywatch), and Zain Alam (Humeysha); fellow podcasters Matt Christman (Chapo Trap House), Brett Payne and Bryan Quinby (Street Fight Radio), OK Fox and Lucia Love (Art and Labor), Yusef Roach (Death is Imminent), and Hayes Davenport (Hollywood Handbook); and weird internet people like Oliver Leach (@BAKKOOON), Christin Bailey (@hexprax) and Jenson Leonard (@coryintheabyss).
