IAN JAY SUPER COMICS: A STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE
My name is Ian Jay! I've been doing webcomics for almost ten years now, since 2005. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2011, and I crowdsourced and self-published two books in 2012 and 2013. Currently I draw a webcomic, CROSSED WIRESthat I post for free, and I co-edit the RRUFFURR online magazine and print anthology series with my partner Nero O'Reilly.

CROSSED WIRES: OUR CURRENT ENDEAVOR
CROSSED WIRES is a black and white comic about two queer hackers in college who get into cyber-adventures. In a more abstract, English-class-metatextual sense, it's about growing up with your identity and means of self-expression linked to technology, and how that can affect your real life.

It currently updates Mondays and Thursdays on http://crossedwires.ianjay.net. It's intended to be episodic in nature, with each chapter running between fifty to a hundred pages each.

MONEY: OUR PLANET'S EVIL, EVIL LIFEBLOOD

Drawing comics is fun, enriching and culturally important, but I'd like to realize more elaborate projects-- new minicomics, new full-length publications, new cool merchandise, and additional time and attention lavished on current projects. In a post-scarcity society, I would be doing this kind of thing already, but since we don't live in some kind of dope Star-Trek-Earth-style utopia, I have to make sure my bills are paid before anything else. Right now I mostly make ends meet through my day job, with additional income from conventions and occasional online sales and commissions. It's chill, but it's not ideal. If I had the time and income to focus 100% on comics, I'd really be able to make some magic happen.

That's where you come in! Hopefully!

GOALS AND PERKS: WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME, BUDDY
I want my Patreon to be easy to get into, so I'm starting donation tiers at $1. With that, you'll get access to our CROSSED WIRES BACKEND BLOG, an ever-growing pile of ancillary behind-the-scenes CW material-- sketches, character and setting designs, hi-res "artist editions" of page inks, scripts for "deleted scenes" that I couldn't fit in the comic, and other fun bits and pieces. For $2, you get access to the Backend Blog PLUS you get to see pages an update early-- pages scheduled to be posted on Monday will go up on here the Thursday beforehand, so you can peep the action before ANYONE ELSE. And for $5, you get all the same stuff the $1 and $2 donators get, PLUS an exclusive CROSSED WIRES wallpaper to festoon your computer, tablet or phone with. You can donate more than that if you want, too!

My goals for this Patreon are pretty simple-- stuff I've wanted to do with the comic but haven't been able to do because of time restraints, other obligations, and other stuff like that. If we hit $75 per month, I'll start doing an ASKBLOG to color in little corners of the CROSSED WIRES world. Anyone will be able to read it, but only you, the subscribers, will be able to send in questions for me or the characters to answer. At $150 per month, I'll start doing WEEKLY STREAMS, three-hour-long Patreon subscriber-exclusive events where I'll draw comics, take sketch requests, and basically shoot the breeze with you folks. Finally, at $500 per month, I'll do THREE UPDATES A WEEK instead of two, since at that point I'll be able to ease up on my day job a little and focus even more on art stuff.

I might come up with more goals and perk levels later on if the need arises, but I feel like this is a solid start. Stay tuned!
