In May 2013, the museum officially opened its doors and access to a library of 1,500 games, to the public. Our Mission
Playing games is older than writing. IMOGAP seeks to reach a hand across every social, economic, and cultural boundary to engage other humans in structured play. We believe the exploration of ideas that are modeled by games and puzzles can produce common ground, encourage creativity, and enhance learning. We celebrate the aesthetic, historic and functional beauty of structured play and its components.

Our supporters understand the significant role games play in our society. IMOGAP shares your love and appreciation of games! We are committed to a mission that will:
  • Bring a community of families, friends, and gaming hobbyists together.
  • Provide affordable access to collection of games and a space to play.
  • Enable the sharing and teaching of games.

Why We Love Games
Games provide a sense of play with challenges, rules for success, and rewards for achievement. From the beginnings of early childhood until the late years of our lives, games help teach and retain critical cognitive skills, strengthen trust and communication in our relationships, and enrich our lives with the joy of play.

Games Educate
Mixing games with learning heightens our emotion and engagement, making the experience fun and entertaining while increasing our interaction and focus. Studies routinely support that games improve early childhood development, reduce the risk of cognitive decline, and are an effective tool used in education.

Games Connect
Playing a game can break down the barriers of social awkwardness by providing a platform, with a pre-established set of rules, to interact with others. Games build trust and communication skills, that over time strengthens relationships and reduces loneliness and depression.

Games Entertain & Convey Ideas
Games invite us to explore our creativity and share innovative new ideas by offering choices and the possibility of multiple outcomes. Using the mechanics of games, we can safely test, explore and experiment with our ideas. The playful nature of games nurtures a sense of trust, free from catastrophic consequences, for further creative expression and exploration.

Your Support Matters
IMOGAP relies on the support of individual donors, like you, to keep our doors open and provide our services. Keeping the museum doors open 5 days a week and the admission price low is a big expense. The museum is currently 100% funded by private donations through the kindness of our patrons, admissions, and the purchase of yearly memberships. We do everything we can to keep costs low, but running an accessible, board game packed museum takes a lot of resources, so we need your help! With your donation, we can:
  • Keep the museum access affordable.
  • Grow and maintain the collection.
  • Create and facilitate education programs and exhibits.
  • Develop improvements to the game storage and management systems.
  • Expand our reproductions, outreach, and the roles of our volunteers.
  • Hire full-time staff to support all of the museums services.
