This tier if just if you want to throw a dollar or so at me and my writing. There are no special benefits beyond giving to something you support, and knowing it's appreciated in a huge way.

This tier gets you access to chapters a week before they come out. It's not amazingly special, but it's something to give a little more and get a little more in turn.

About Exceptional - A Superhuman World

Exceptional is a webstory about superheroes who have to deal with the fact that they're very "larger than life" as people, while still also being... You know, people. It's a story I've wanted to tell for years, and am finally putting to words.

And this Patreon is how you could support that, if you so choose. As of right now, there are only going to be two "tiers" for it. $1 if you just want to support it. $5 if you want to support it and also see chapters a week before they go up.That's it.

I don't believe, especially in media, in making exclusives last forever. I don't believe in making people wait months to see things.

Support me if you want to. If not, I understand.

About the Author:

This is usually the part where someone posts a picture of themselves and then lists off their writing credentials or whatever, right? Well unfortunately I’ve never been very good at talking about myself.

Why do this, then?

Honestly, because this is me giving something a shot. It might fail spectacularly. I might never post more than a few chapters or maybe only a handful of people will read it. Honestly, I couldn’t tell you if this is worth your time. But I feel like I owe it to myself to try.

That’s sort of what Exceptional is all about. It’s trying in the face of “why bother?”. It’s a passion project that started as a tabletop setting.

But this is about me, so I guess I’ll give my credentials or whatever.

  • I’ve been writing creatively since I was like ten. Never excessively good writing. Honestly some of it’s super hokey and awkward and most of it will never see the light of day. For reference, I’m twenty-five now.
  • I’ve never been published unless this counts.
  • I went to school to make video games and now I work doing something that is not that. I would like to make video games instead. Or write.
I grew up on superhero stories. Spider-man was my favorite hero and toy as a kid. The idea that someone, anyone would stand up and just try to make things better in the face of all this awfulness was something I needed as a kid, and over time I feel like it influenced me in so many ways.

It’s not about liking “the good guy winning”, it’s about seeing that someone’s standing up to the bad guy. It’s seeing that Spider-man was like me. He was picked on. He didn’t fit in. He made mistakes. Other heroes did too, but he was just something familiar in ways I couldn’t explain. It spoke to me.

And as I grew up I absolutely loved superhero media. Kick-Ass is one of my favorite films even if I have a lot of criticism now as an adult. Avengers hit right as I was entering college, and I saw it five times in theaters.

I can’t say this trip will be worth going on for anyone but me, or that I’ll even finish it. But all the same I feel it’s worth a try.

So that’s all I’ve got to say about me. I’ll try to let the work speak for itself, for better or worse.
$0 of $100 per month
If by some miracle I actually make a hundred dollars on Patreon, I'd absolutely go wild. I can't promise anything in return, but even a small amount of extra money per month would do a lot for my standard of living.
