Who am I?
I’m the author of over a dozen critically acclaimed books of fiction and non fiction, and many essays and stories in a range of publications. I’ve been living a life of many relocations and new directions. Terrifying instability gives way to magical serendipity; a productive period in one place breaks apart and a new environment must be found.
The one constant is that it is a writer’s life; the writing is my vocation, the centre and meaning of my life.
Why Patreon?
I am setting up this Patreon page at a time where more massive relocations loom in my near future. At this point, I need financial support to make a new journey and to set up a new life somewhere, somewhere I can survive in peace and safety and continue to write, somewhere I’m more available for other opportunities, find a way to be useful. I need to move away and need to move on.
“I want to support you on Patreon because….”
Here is what some friends/readers/supporters say
“I want to support you on Patreon because the world is a better place because of your fierce intelligent insights. You must continue and you must have independence. For all of us.” Julie Brumlik
“I want to support you on Patreon because 3/4 of the people I know would never have the courage to lead a peripatetic life like yours. Remember to pat yourself on your back regularly.” Philip Gorman
“I want to support you on Patreon because you are a subversive thinker, one who defies the stereotypical and sentimental, be it in life or in the genre-shifting fluidity of your writing.” Loveday Woods
Feel free to add your own completion of "I want to support you on Patreon because...". I can use your name, initials, or made-up initials to quote you.
Please do consider being one of my supporters on Patreon.
If I had 200 patrons pledging $5 a month each, I'd have enough to survive.
Even a small amount means a lot in this kind of life. And small amounts add up. It might be just the cost of that coffee or cocktail we’d have this month if we could meet. Or a dinner, if you could. Or a week’s rent, if you’re able to spare it. Or even just what you’d give a busker on the street.
Think of it this way
For $1 a month you have access to my patrons-only blog. And I am going to write one.
Thank You and Rewards
I thank you in the most sincere and grateful way there is. How can I thank you?
It is usual for creators on Patreon to offer rewards to patrons, and I am happy to do so, while realising some of the usual rewards from writers (more text!) might seem more like additional calls on your overloaded attention. I welcome your suggestions for rewards.
Patron-only content
This will include a place where patrons can ask questions and I will answer them.
More about my work
If you’re looking at this page you probably already know me and my work and already are interested in being a supporter. If you need to know more, please check out my website (which includes a Newsblog) and my “Local Time Publishing” LTP Facebook page. I also send an occasional newsletter; the most recent one is here:  newsletter and that has links to the ones before it. You can sign up for that newsletter here: subscribe . I created my Local Time Publishing project to re-issue POD back list and new titles; titles can be seen here .
More news on re-locations at the newsletter, and on this page when circumstances permit.
Current work (1) novel in progress
Setting up this page, I am at a writers’ retreat in Latvia for the month of July 2017, where I expect to complete a draft of the novel I’ve been working on for the last few years. Or nearly.
Current work (2) the India project
I am planning a trip to southern India, where I have dear friends from a range of occupations; the idea is that discussing present and past with them will become material for an introduction or frame for the book on India I plan to write. (I spent a total of 4+ years in India with over 12 trips since 1980; 3 of my books were first published there.) Also it’s a time of life when the sense of “could be the last time” is often felt.

Patreon says: The best way for a patron to support a creator with a one-time pledge is to become a patron, and simply delete your pledge after your been successfully charged or after the first of the month. You'll know when that happens because you'll receive an email confirmation right after the 1st of the month or when you've been charged that says your pledge has successfully processed.
