We never imagined that we would be able to MAKE full time, and we are so grateful to our customers and supporters for all that they have done for us. We had no idea how supportive this community would be, so THANK YOU for helping us do what we love.

We are dreamers and creators. Nothing thrills us more than imagining a new idea and bringing it to life. It's kinda the basis of our love story, and we've invested everything we have in this life. We are so grateful that you are helping us build our dreams together.

You'd have to travel pretty far back to figure out where all of this really started.

For me, it was at Grandma's dining room table (and crocheting in her living room). I spent hours making paper dolls out of cereal boxes and drawing/writing in the new notebooks she stocked up on at back-to-school time. She had a basket for each grandchild where we got to keep our work-in-progress pieces, and when my grandparents downsized, she found enough grandchild craft projects to blow you away. She was my biggest fan and loved every terrible drawing I ever did. When I self-published my first book of poetry, she was the first (and only person) to buy a copy - and she bought two. She read my blog posts religiously until she passed away, and she taught me that creativity was to be cultivated, cherished, and shared.

Adam grew up surrounded by makers too. His grandma could cook anything you wanted in 15 minutes and was a talented seamstress who sewed beautiful quilts and quite a few of his clothes growing up. His grandpa was a woodworker who believed in doing things by hand. He taught Adam how to stain and work with wood, but most importantly, he taught him how to work hard. And he does. Adam is the hardest worker I know, and he pushes me to create things that would usually intimidate me into creation paralysis.

Our business grew out of our love.

I'd convinced myself I didn't believe in soul mates, and then I met Adam. We are both far from perfect and carry plenty of pain in our hearts, but the connection was immediate. I felt like I'd found a missing part of myself, and he was willing to admit it long before I had the courage to do so. Our business grew out of that love and our mutual desire to create.

Pokemon Go + Laser Cutting = Indie Crafting Explosion of Ideas

In late summer of 2016, we started Pokemon Go St. Louis, a website dedicated to making the Pokemon Go experience a positive one for our community. We used our branding and marketing expertise to help small businesses host Pokemon Go themed events and promotions to take advantage of the increased foot traffic. We posted articles and news to keep the players informed and safe. And we hosted Charmander Festival, a free family-friendly event that was SPONSORED BY NIANTIC, the creators of Pokemon Go. They sent us over $400 worth of prizes for our games because Adam is just that good at getting people to return his phone calls. Over 3000 people showed up to the event, and we sold out of the laser cut keychains we had frantically made up the week before. We made more that weekend (at a FREE event) than we'd made in the entire month previous. We realized that maybe there was a way to craft AND make a living.

Birth of the Interchangeable Door Hanger

We knew we needed another product to sell besides keychains, so we started brainstorming. We ended up developing our patent pending interchangeable door hangers, and the holiday season was an explosion of designing/cutting/painting/selling/delivering. We could not keep up with the demand out of the makerspace we were working in. We were BLOWN AWAY by the response to our products. If we'd had any doubt that crafting was a viable path, the holiday season solidified it for us.

Our Official Launch

When January came, we took a couple months off to regroup and officially launch our business, Innotations. We purchased our own laser cutter (with a 36x55 inch bed!) so we could create things more quickly with no limit to the amount of time we could make. We moved the shop to Mt. Carmel, IL and have been traveling to shows across the midwest ever since.

What's Next for Us?

We are still pretty new to all of this, but we feel so invested in the craft and maker community already. We are hoping to purchase an RV with the money we make this holiday season so we can stop wasting money on hotel rooms (and so we never have to load a whole 10x10 booth full of stuff and/or sleep in our tiny Ford Fusion again!) It seems like we have a new idea every single week. The hard part is finding the time to work on building those ideas into reality. We hope that our patrons will join us on the journey as we grow Innotations and expand our horizons into new frontiers.

Makers gonna make. Thank you for helping us live our dreams!
