The Institute for Social Ecology (ISE) is an educational and activist organization dedicated to the study of social ecology; an interdisciplinary field drawing on philosophy, political and social theory, anthropology, history, economics, the natural sciences, and feminism. We offer online courses, in-person intensive workshops, a speakers bureau, various resources and publications, and an annual gathering held in Vermont. Founded in 1974, the ISE has served as a catalyst and resource for a wide range of social movements, demonstrating the skills, knowledge, and relationships to foster vibrant, democratic communities for over 40 years.

Your economic support will be used to further our mission of providing transformative educational programming that addresses the intersection of social and ecological problems. If you support the ISE’s mission but don’t have the time and energy to get involved in one of our projects directly, then consider becoming an ISE sustainer. Sustainers support our mission by helping us get out the word about our programs and events, and/or by making regular monetary contributions which fund our work. These funds will be used to expand our social ecology intensives which gather activist-scholars from across the globe, develop new online courses on cutting-edge topics, seed activist projects like the Symbiosis network, update media platforms that reach thousands, and more generally to advance the visionary ideas we need in order to create a truly free and ecological society. We thank you for your critical support!
