The Tesladyne Intern

Long post this time. Sorry guys. About to live up to my "over-sharer" reputation. My daughter is a strange duck. She's fairly indifferent to comic books, unless they are by Faith Eric Hicks, Hope Larsen, or Raina Telgemeier. She loves Atomic Robo the character, but is completely uninterested in the actual comics. And yet she always wants to be *in* the comics. Kids! A few years ago we slipped her into a FCBD story as a participant in a science fair that Dr. Dinosaur raids. Doctor Who jokes ensued. But she was always asking, "When can I be in your comic again?" It's hard to explain to a kid that there are no kids in a comic book that considers young people to be one of it's major audience groups. But let's be honest; kid genius characters are THE WORST. Even most kids recognize this. Sorry Will Wheaton. You are awesome. Crusher was a prat. And so a compromise was reached: I told my daughter that I would design a character based on how I see her once she's a little older. Say in her early twenties. She actually loved this idea. I stole her punk rock haircut and interest in biology and mushrooms. Thus Elizabeth Foley, Action Mycologist in training was created. Foley first appeared in last year's FCBD story. In what seems to be becoming a tradition, I wrote the barest sketch of an outline, drew the entire thing, and then Brian plopped a bunch of hilarious dialog on top of it. With the original cast of Present Day Action Scientist all pushing 40 we thought it would be fun to include a younger scientist with some moxie in the mix. So we'll be seeing a lot of Foley in Atomic Robo & The Ring of Fire!

Gustavo Campanelli Then the hair is naturally that colour because of a backstory that has yet to be told?

Tesladyne Um . . . yes?

Gide Wilder How about having an action axiologist? Or an action helminthologist? I think there is a crying need.

The Internet Broke Us

As you may have noticed, all the attention being lovingly directed at atomic-robo.com has basically melted the face off our site. Fear not though. Teams of Action Scientists are working hard to fix that! There's a lot of trans-dimensional this, and Zorth vectors that, being tossed around, but the most promising avenue of research appears to be moving the site onto the #hiveworks servers. We should have that done in time for the Monday update. We are also taking this opportunity to revamp the site some that reading and navigating are much simpler. (Not sure if that will be done for Monday, but here's hoping!)

Christopher W. Dolunt Well, I've read them all already, so I won't be abusing your site until the new volume goes up...

Tesladyne Hopefully the blog will be worth checking out. But you're definitely getting the best "Behind the Scenes" seat here.

Gustavo Campanelli You might be better releasing daily instead of whole volumes at a time. It'll help manage and project the needed bandwith and data volume.

Tesladyne We're going to be doing single issues at a time until we run out of old material. Then it will be a page a day for the new stuff. Dumping all of Vol.1 on launch day was a one-time deal. (Until we decide to do it again.)

Timothy Tankersley You're probably already aware but if you aren't, the first issue of Atomic Robo and the Dogs of War has doubled pages.

Tesladyne Thanks for the heads up! This was a real crazy weekend for getting the website fixed so we'll be working on these little glitches as we find them. Clicking the art, rather than the nav button, seems to fix this for now.

Tesladyne Fixed! Duplicated pages removed. Nav buttons and page clicking now work as expected.

Working on More Patreon Goals

The response to our Patreon has been great so far, and we are tremendously grateful to all the folks who have gotten in early. But we're not going to stop working to get more folks into the fold. In the next days and weeks, we'll be adding new goals that we hope will excite you, including new podcasts, and some comic projects by some famous folks. So stay tuned (but don't let that keep you from pledging now)!
