Michael Tedder The rewards are great, I'd just like to see you make more music! :) Per creation provides incentive for you to create that music, which is what I think all of us want. If you were cranking out multiple creations per month, a monthly model would definitely work, but right now that would feel like I'd be contributing to your monthly bills and not directly buying your music. I think what would help is to get more Patrons. As Patrons ourselves, we can definitely help spread the word, but it takes effort to market yourself as well. And the best way to do that is to keep this Patreon active and continue to crank out stuff.

September 21, 2015 03:24:39 · Reply

Max Brustkern I'm fine with monthly, it's more consistent for me, and I'm convinced making music is something you want to do, so helping out with the bills just gives you more time to do it. Either way works for me.

September 21, 2015 15:51:10 · Reply

Jim I'm cool with monthly. The goal is to support you as an artist, not necessarily to pay for what you produce. (At least, that's *my* goal.)

Where's My Mommy - a cartoony poopy runner game

Ladies and gents, I'm excited and jittery. I've overloaded my responsibilities once again and I will be writing an album worth of Sega Genesis music for the indie game "Where's My Mommy?" The game is currently on Steam Greenlight and needs your votes. Please hit http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=516355703, log into steam, and hit that Yes button so we can self-publish!

Attached to this post is the unedited music from the trailer. Also, a build of the game will be shown sometime in the next month (I think?) so my current plan is to have three more tracks (not counting this one) by the end of the month, at which point they will become a secret EP for you, my Patrons. =]

Let me know what you think and thanks for your support!

How to use a Sega Genesis to explain Adult Life

All my Patrons should now have download codes to this track, which is apparently... what's the vernacular... "blowing up the spot" (am I showing my age yet?)!

"My Adult Life" is currently getting 20 times the plays of any of my other tracks and over half of the plays of any of my stuff on Bandcamp daily. I'd like to see it continue to do well before I put it up anywhere else; I'm just careful like that.

Please help me continue to spread the word if you can! The track is now on Google Play here.

Something is happening, and I'm not quite sure what it is. All I know is that it's some combination of EDM (That's Elevator Dance Music for the uninitiated), four-operator FM bass wobbles, square waves, and headbob jams. It'll be a SONIC (oh no, puns!) experience!

This month's Patreon track will be "My Adult Life", a throwback to FM soundtracks from Genesis / Mega Drive, Arcade, and PC games from the early 90's. And it'll be extreme, mainly because I'm still learning to balance my levels on the YM2612!

Patrons, your rewards and download codes will be delivered after billing completes as usual. Thanks so much for your support!

Mystic Searches on The Goldbergs TOMORROW

Hey everyone, I have some pretty big news: In just a little over 25 hours the next episode of The Goldbergs is airing on ABC, and "the New 8-bit Heroes" project Mystic Searches will get what I am told to be a reasonably prominent display on the show. Why is this a big deal? Because I'm the one that will eventually be converting all of composer Jessey Foster's orchestral work on the project to NES to go in the actual game. Really exciting! So tomorrow night at 8.30pm Eastern US time, pop on ABC to support The Goldbergs (which if you haven't seen it, is an amazing TV show about the 80s) and Mystic Searches! Oh....the video? That's a slightly dramatized version of the story of what happened before Joe had to give the game to Adam Goldberg for the show.... also it totally nails how passionate us "8-bit creators" are in bringing you an authentic experience.

Boy, I sure know how to wow the crowds with subject lines! But seriously? Get excited: This month is bringing us a 3- or 4-track tribute EP of another major act. Can't say who yet; trying to mitigate any fallout in advance... I will say the first track is already done and it's sounding great. The EP will also go to my subscriptions on bandcamp, but it won't be buyable there; only Loudr and the platforms Loudr pushes to. So, I need your help! My Loudr account is pretty unknown by fans. Would you mind following and encouraging others to follow me over there? That would be mighty fine! Here's the link: http://ldr.fm/a/3BRu2 Hope everyone is having a nice March! Boring title, I know - I just typed up a huge long post and it vanished (twice!) so I'm now typing the abridged version. =] I've been hard at work getting my video-fu up to par, in multiple ways: 1) The video I posted earlier this month uses something called ColorChord. Charles has been hard at work on it and I've been testing and providing feedback. The entire thing has been rewritten like twice and it's now extremely stable and modular! 2) Remember my "Cool visual thing" milestone? Because ColorChord is so modular now, we got it running on my LED grid on the back of my laptop *right* before MAGFest, and betatested it during my set there. It was great! I've still got a ways to go until I'm happy with the things my LED setup can do, but ColorChord was on the list and it is now DONE! 3) Last year I livestreamed myself writing music a bit, and I plan to do that more this year. However, I also want to stream myself gaming on Twitch, so I *just* got my start on Mother (Earthbound) 1 on the NES, after which I will proceed to 2 on the SNES and 3 on the GBA (all in English). Over the past week I've hacked together my own livestreaming setup because basically none of the Linux streaming solutions worked for what I wanted to do. Even though it is quite a custom ordeal, it's been fairly solid and at least as good as most of the other setups I've worked with. I've logged around 20 hours already using this setup. Since that's my most recent "thing", that's what this Patreon link is. Please head over to my twitch channel and follow (don't forget to enable notifications) if you'd like to watch me stream games or music composition! Hope everyone has had a nice 2015 so far and looking forward to sharing what's coming down the pike!

So hey! I recently monetized my YouTube channel after receiving a resounding "DO IT" and I made a resolution to try and pay more attention to it. This is a part of that. In that vein, I've been testing out some cool music visual ideas with my buddy Charles and providing feedback, and I wanted to show it to everyone. These visuals are generated in realtime using a DFT rather than an FFT, which means instead of a "regular" frequency analysis, it specifically maps frequencies of notes. Then it figures out the strength/intensity/loudness of those notes, picks a few of the top ones, and does an animation based on that. The music is Lost Signal from Shuttle Scuttle, one of my better tracks from the game (well, in my opinion). Please share this around to anyone that likes shiny flashy things! Also before I forget, this month's rewards are coming soon. Thanks for your patience =]

Hi Patrons! Recently dropping on the unsuspecting masses alongside my Dungeonmans Demakes is a remix for Beatscribe's Starship Rubicon OST. This game recently got a re-release and is worth a look, and the soundtrack has an interesting blend of chipsounds and beats. If you're in a hurry but still want to hear what I did, listen to track 3 (Rescue) and then my version, track 7. I decided to take the combination of chips and deconstruct them into something that a single NES could do. I have a limited number of full-album download codes that will be going out to my top Patrons, everyone else will at least get a download of my track. =] Hope you're having a great holiday/December/winter!

2 Chips 1 Month

So I've been trying to work with Overclocked Remix EDM extraordinaire Andrew Aversa — that is, Zircon — for awhile now. I really don't do enough RPG-style music and an opportunity presented itself. Andrew did the OST to Dungeonmans and asked if I'd like to do a demake of any of the tracks. I was feeling the Town track as a chiptune since Town and Overworlds are often more memorable tracks from games, so here we are. There might be more than one of these coming down the pike (some of the battle/boss themes lend themselves to some C64), but for now I just want to make sure you, my Patrons with hot Patooties (ugh, I'll never alliterate again), got access to this. Patreon begins billing for this month's work tomorrow, so expect a download code for this and also C64est (the track from earlier this month) to show up in your inbox soon! Thanks for supporting!

Get it? 4est? This is a direct (and time-signature wrecked) dual-Commodore 64 arrangement of Josh Whelchel's Forest draft for Oblitus, an upcoming game. It got stuck in my head and then so did Colu...

New dual-C64 Oblitus arrange

Josh Whelchel is working on music for the upcoming game Oblitus (http://oblit.us) and he asked if I wanted to do something with his new tracks. I listened to his work-in-progress of the ingame forest music and it really stuck with me. So, here's my re-arrangement of that forest theme on two Commodore 64s. I really like the original...the atmosphere is really great and I'd recommend you listen to it first before listening to my version. I also had this idea in the back of my head for something that would really make you move, so I've taken a few liberties with it to merge what's in my head with the original. This is a paid post, so I will be messaging Patrons with a download code when the time comes. For now, I hope you enjoy, please feel free to share the link around!
