About
Somehow I got here. I came to Los Angeles wanted to work in "The Industry". About 10 years ago I started working as a prop maker in film and TV. I then moved onto illustration and concept art as my bread and butter. After a lot of freelancing I ended up working at Riot games and have been there for about 4 years.
(I swear this will get better too..)

A NOTE ON TAKING A BREAK!
My apologies for not updating my Patreon in a while. I'm currently dealing with matters of a personal nature which have kept me from consistently producing work worthy of pledges. I'm going to be temporarily disabling my account and disabling payments from my patrons to me. It's definitely not fair to be charging anything while I'm going through an unproductive phase.
I have turned off the monthly campaign settings which should turn off charging patrons' cards. If you are a patron, PLEASE, if for some reason your card is charged LET ME KNOW. I'd like to make this as smooth as possible. I'll keep an eye on the system to make sure nothing goes wrong on this end, but check your settings as well. You can still subscribe/pledge/follow but you just won't be charged.
Thank you very much for all your support this year! I really want to make a better effort of providing more work, with more patron involvement. I don't think I'm living up to that goal at the moment.
When I'm ready to return to a normal cadence I'll update my page and let you know!
Again, please let me know if you have any issues with being billed by mistake.
Thank you!
-Mike

Hi! I'm Mike! (I sometimes go by the name IronStylus on the internets)
THIS IS A LITTLE WORK-IN-PROGRESS AT THE MOMENT
(please bear with me while I work out the kinks and establish the flow)
NOTE! This page is for original work. NOT for League of Legends-based art (sorry!)
Relevant Update! Right now I'm going to stick to handing out the rewards in the "creations" posts and see where that gets us. If people can easily access the current content from that I'll probably stick with that until I make bigger stuff. Cool?

I make concept art for a living. I come from a very straight-forward pipeline in terms of developing concept art for various world-building purposes. I work in several stages when it comes to developing anything from a character, a vehicle, prop, or environment. On Patreon I'm going to show how I generally approach my concepts, with some fun other stuff in there as well!
The stages I work in stages break down to:
- Rough sketches/thumbnails. Very loose, often smaller explorations of a subject. This is where I show how I generate ideas. I'll be showing various versions of whatever thing I'm working on, for the purpose of eventually cutting them down into a design I'd like to build from.
- Tight drawing/line art concept. This is where I'll take whatever I've decided to persue on the thumbnail exploration and flesh it out into a tighter and more cohesive drawing. This is where I'll finalize the design in preparation to make a painted concept.
- Final concept. A fully colored and rendered piece of art that serves the purpose of handing to a 3D artist to make a model, a costume designer to make an outfit out of, a fabricator to make a prop, or any other way that concept art can be brought to life for various media.
I'll be treating each of these "chunks" as what I deliver to you. Showing exploration and ideation, process and technique, along with some tidbits as to how you can approach the industry, hopefully giving some good pointers that will make learning clearer and focused.
I'm going to be starting out slow, testing the waters, and definately taking feedback so this can be as useful to aspiring artists as possible!
As time goes on I'll open up some more expansive rewards and content, trying to keep it simple for now! Please let me know what I can do better!
