About Jailbreak PGH

Jailbreak is an autonomous, free-form coalition of abolitionists in Pittsburgh working to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people inside of Allegheny County Jail (ACJ).

We formed as a response to the horrendous conditions inside ACJ and as a response to the lack of resources formerly incarcerated people receive when they are re-entering society.

Funds received will go towards continuing the aid we currently provide such as sending money to commissaries, helping pay for court fees, purchasing supplies for tabling, and so on.

Many of our connections to the community happen while tabling outside of ACJ. We provide what we can to those being released from behind prison walls, from a phone call and a cigarette to bus tickets out of state or transportation to emergency housing. Here we also have the chance to share our services with those paying visits to or filling commissary for imprisoned loved ones.

We do not believe in the possibility of ethical prison reform and instead advocate for the abolition of police, courts, jails and all detention centers. We believe no human should be in a cage and encourage the exploration and implementation of transformative justice and community accountability models of dealing with harm.

We have no formal leadership and encourage anyone (YOU!) to get involved. Everyone/all of us are accountable for the continuation of this project. Let’s all work to create better conditions for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people in Pittsburgh.
