Welcome to my Patreon page. I am an electric cellist/composer/vocalist/producer that started performing non-classically “off the page” over 40 years ago. (Even writing that number makes me doubt my math skills.) A rich and varied career has led me to love deeply what I do and to explore and respond to what I can offer through music at this current moment. Hopefully my music has brought joy, peace, healing, comfort, and inspiration to your life.

I have always felt my concerts to be a community event that brings us together in a shared resonance. My degree in nursing is as much as part of my work as a musician as is the actual cello itself. Music IS medicine and at this particular time in history we are needing double doses. Thank you for your interest in supporting my career, as it is now and as it has been for the last 40 years!

While I have been in the music/performance/cultural worker world for most of my life, at this moment in history, with the pandemic raging and life taking a huge “PAUSE,” I am listening deeply to what wants to be born for my life and work. Now at this age in my 60’s, I am needing to move to a different tempo. Since so much has been revealed about what is not working in our world, there are many of us who are evaluating what our next steps will be in performance and work. Given the climate crisis, I am looking at the hidden costs of traveling around this country and the world, and am envisioning different ways to reach you. It is both terrifying and exciting to think about what our future holds. I am using this pause as a time to take stock of the role of artists and music in our personal lives and culture.

What does support of a musician look like these days? So many think that by streaming my music I will receive payment - or maybe you never even think about it but have found it an easy way to access my complete catalog. Here’s the truth: a streaming site like Spotify, for example, pays 0.003 cents per play of a song. That means that if you are an avid fan of my music and listened to my recording of the song “Hidden Sky” 1,000 times on Spotify — that would generate $3.00.

Patreon makes it possible for you to ponder and support the idea of fairer compensation for artists, and also affirms the value of the creative process itself beyond performance. Patreon offers a collective action that counters the greed and inequities in our country. It allows me a chance to maintain the artistic independence and integrity that is crucial to creating the beauty I give to you and the world. This is the perfect time for us all to remember, reimagine, and reengage with what matters and then reinvent a compassionate and more equitable economy and life.
