Friends, sisters, and potential new friends,

So, with some degree of trepidation - and following a convo on twitter earlier today about our labour and its value - I've decided to do this thing.

As many of you know, I'm a writer and itinerant academic. What I have been doing over the last few months is, actually, the closest I've ever come to doing what I have always wanted to do with myself. To use my ideas, and my words, to contribute something meaningful to public conversations about things that really matter. And to do something to spread feminist thinking into the world. Because goddess knows we need it. I'd like to be able to continue what I'm doing - and I have a fair few plans for things I'd like to do in the future - and any support you could give me to help me carry on doing that would be incredibly helpful.

Under the present conditions, I feel very strongly that I am more use outside of the university than inside it. And what I've been doing over the last few months is also, from that perspective, possibly a kind of career suicide. I feel okay about that - because speaking truth right now seems more important than that, and almost everyone I know inside - other than the very brave with secure jobs (who as we know, are going through hell for their dissent) - has been effectively muzzled by the situation.

Anyway, here are the things I will continue to do, or am planning on doing, with my time:

- Continue to write for the blog and putting the argument out on the wires by twits.
- Producing a longer and possibly illustrated version of 'The Annals'
- Helping to co-ordinate a website to document what is happening in universities
- I also want to produce a website to synthesise and collate all our arguments and data in one easily accessible place
- Lastly, I am exploring the possibility of creating some kind of research/policy organ to protect and disseminate second wave thought.

At this stage it doesn't seem quite obvious what benefits or freebies I can offer to people at the various tiers. I tend to just write and then put things out into the world right away. If you have any suggestions about things you'd like (monthly question and answer sessions on feminist philosophy? reading groups? long nerdy lectures about Prince?) I'd be very happy to hear suggestions.

Finally, as some of you also know, I do have a book project on Prince that is moving through the pipeline. From a financial perspective, I don't yet know how that's going to pan out...but if, by some miracle, I actually get paid, I'll let you all know...

In solidarity and thanks, Jane
