Jane Rubin has been painting since childhood. Her first art form was Dance. In childhood, Jane was simultaneously advanced in Dance, Music, and Visual Art. Jane's father was a talented clarinetist. Her maternal grandmother was a talented painter. There is also athletic talent on both sides of her family. Blessing or curse, Jane ended up inheriting all of her family's abilities.
Jane began serious ballet training in early childhood. A Soloist with The National Ballet of Washington D.C. ran a ballet program in Jane's small home town of York, PA. She considered Jane to have the talent to dance professionally. She put Jane on point before she was 10 years old, but she suddenly retired in Jane's pre-teens, As there was no other serious ballet instructor in York, PA, Jane’s focus became Visual Art.
Essentially, Jane Rubin is a "dancer who paints." With her athletic coordination, ballet training, and muscle memory, Jane is able to draw another athlete in motion.
In recent art, Jane has been drawing and painting male athletes while they are playing. These were drawn and painted in real time at games — while they players were moving:
Jane sees — and feels — form and space — with her whole body — as well as with vision.
Jane was born and raised in York, Pennsylvania. She moved to New York City in her late teens to be a Professional Artist and to attend Columbia University. While at Columbia, Jane was the only undergraduate who was invited to participate in the Columbia's Master of Fine Arts Graduate Drawing Seminar. Jane graduated from Columbia with both artistic and academic honors. Jane then moved to the West Coast and completed her Master of Fine Arts Degree at California Institute of the Arts. At CalArts Jane was simultaneously awarded three graduate teaching positions, in Drawing, Painting and Color Theory. Upon receiving her M.F.A. in Visual Art, Jane was accepted to complete a second Masters Degree in the CalArts Design Program.
At the same time, Jane was selected as an Artist by The Whitney Museum of American Art I.S.P. Jane was selected by The Whitney Program in New York City without an interview, a rarity. (Normally, multiple interviews are required). In her Whitney Program Show, Jane exhibited an installation of larger-than-life figurative paintings.
During the late 1990s, Jane was a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts. She taught "Media Communications" in the Department of Advertising and Design.
Jane is also an award-winning Creative Director. After having directed campaigns for Fortune 500s at other agencies, in the early 2000s Jane founded her own advertising agency, TOTALVIEW Global. Virtually all TOTALVIEW accounts have been won through referral.
