WHO I AM
I am a composer of experimental music and a pianist-improviser. Feel free to visit my website for more information about my work.

WHAT I DO
I make music for acoustic instruments, voice, electronic means, and theater. Through this work, I seek spaces for emotional experiences and critical thinking. My SoundCloud site is an excellent place to start in order to get acquainted with my music, but for now, here is this video of Liam Hockley performing my piece for four clarinets ...es kömmt drauf an, sie zu verändern.

CURRENT PROJECTS

In 2018, I have embarked on four major musical projects. One is already complete: Λήθη - επιβεβαίωση - ἀλήθεια [Homage to C.P.] for alto saxophone and electronics, commissioned by my friend Jeff Siegfried, who is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Michigan. The second is a cycle of new pieces written for my friend, the Australian soprano Jessica Aszodi. I have titled this cycle Foundations, as it is based on foundational texts of political theorists whose ideas have had an impact on my political education. The third project in the works is a large-scale piece for contrabass clarinet and choir, commissioned by the Portuguese clarinetist Carlos Cordeiro and the vocal ensemble Ekmeles. Finally, I will also be writing a new piece for Nima Janmohammadi, a setar performer of Persian classical music and composer.

[UPDATE 10/23: A new project has been added to the list! Flutist Mar Sala Romagosa and guitarist Pieter-Jan Vercammen, based in Belgium, have commissioned me a new piece, to be premiered in 2019.]

WHY PATREON
Composing requires significant time and energy. It is a demanding form of intellectual and emotional labor. However, most composers do not make enough money from their own music in order to have a healthy lifestyle—rent is expensive, bills add up. In fact, it is very common for composers to supplement their income through other activities, including teaching, performing, or even pursuing day jobs unrelated to music. I am no exception to that, and so I have to pursue other types of labor in order to make a living. By contributing to this Patreon account, you are helping me to explore music as an art form in depth—you are contributing to my having the time to focus on what is meaningful to me: the development of new musical forms and ideas. I deeply appreciate your support, and I can only thank you for believing in my work.

CONTRADICTIO IN ADJECTO
In all honesty, I am not happy about having to launch a Patreon account to support my work as a composer. I believe that platforms like this one are the ultimate outcome of a political economy that has brought exceeding precariousness to many types of labor, including the domains of music and artistic expression. There is little I can do to change this reality in the short term, so I apologize in advance if this contradiction bothers you—it certainly bothers me.
