The Mitrailleuse is a new group blog, for loose cannons. The goal of our unusual confederation of writers, which span the political spectrum, is to write our way out of the deadening ideological veal pens that pass for political views in the 21st century.

I convened the blog several months ago for a cross-ideological conversation on decentralism, a conversation we have happily outgrown. Nonetheless, by way of introduction, allow me to point out that you would be hard-pressed to find another blog in which an Occupy Oakland participant, an economist focused on free cities, and a neoreactionary discuss, with a high degree of collegiality, the concept of a political exit. In the coming weeks and months, more contributors will be joining us. Our writers have been published in The Freeman and The American Interest in recent weeks, and we were also listed as one of Wordpress's top 40 fastest-growing blogs.

Here is an incomplete list of some other things we've been up to: 

• Nick O'Connell published a masterful analysis lamenting the Anglicization and Sanskritization of Hinduism.
• Kayla Westbrook pushed back against a certain strain of housebroken libertarianism which assumes that the way to evangelize the left is to push the same sexual iconoclasm they do.
• Mark Lutter was published in the Freeman twice, on private cities and proprietary cities.
• I weighed in on the Atlantean/Eurasianist conversation in the reactionary blogosphere, coming down on the side of the former, wrote about why it doesn't matter that Rand Paul's foreign policy views are squishy.
• Antony Gray wrote on Maya Angelou and America's civil religion: "If you look at a figure like Oprah, who considered Angelou her mentor, you see an incarnation of the role of the soul guide. In this way, Oprah has an almost priest-like role in the civil religion; promoting the necessary equality and vague but friendly visionary knowledge borrowed from the prophets (self help?)." He's also been teaching us how to write poetry.
• A firsthand account of a trip to Siskiyou county, heart of the Jefferson statehood movement, which prompts JJ to ask, given the federal control of significant amounts of land there, is statehood enough?
• Rob Mariani and myself were behind the infamous @salondotcom Twitter account, which received a fair amount of press.

Your support, for the time being, will be used for promotion and to underwrite the operating costs of the website. If things continue to grow as quickly as they have been the last couple of months, it may be possible to offer a stipend to our contributors. But that's up to you.

The way to win the war of ideas is to exchange them freely. That is what we intend to do, and we hope you will join us.
