Hey everyone,

Isnt it strange how some of the projects with the purest intentions have the least amount of funding behind them?

That is the reason I am setting up this Patreon page: to allow me to me to keep choosing projects based on what they can do for the world, regardless if they make money for me or not and to keep giving help to those who need it most.

Many of the projects I am involved with are grassroots/nonprofit meaning they do not have a significant enough amount of money behind them to give me finical support in exchange for my work or the objective of the organization is not to make money e.g. Fablabs & Precious Plastic. Despite this I do not let this influence my decision to support them, if their cause is for the betterment of the world to support the wellbeing of people or the environment then I do not let the fact that they cannot give me money stop me from working with them. The fact that the objective of these projects is not to make money makes it more likely that I am going to support them as I find myself a lot more personally invested in projects with a more authentic cause than finical gain.

Often the projects without money behind them are ones which need the most help. On top of this all the research work I do is opensourced, (made publicly available for free) and protected with creative commons licensing meaning I am unable to use it to generate income for myslelf.

As you hopefully understand from what you just read, I am always working but barely ever receiving income for the work I do, which of course presents some pragmatic complications in todays world. Being without money is often holding me back from giving my full energy to a project, that deserves supporting, due to the logistical implications it presents. Often a lot of mental power is spent on figuring how to sustain myself without money when it could be spent on the projects I am working on.

Those of you know me personally know that I am an incredibly low maintenance human, wearing my clothes until they are physically unwearable, repairing my possessions until they are unrepairable and keeping what I own to a minimum so that I am able to travel easy. Despite these practices I have adopted some expenditure is avoidable. Travel costs, (no more flying as of 2019) cleaning myself and my clothes and material costs for my projects etc.

Any small amount you can support me with helps me cover these costs and keep doing the work I am doing and spend more of my energy on the awesome projects and movement that are happening in the world right now!
