There's a lot of information out there.

Sometimes it's hard to figure out what's useful. Sometimes you can't find the thing you're looking for. Sometimes you hit a wall, and you're not sure where to go next.

I have a knack for finding information (and a lot of training and experience finding it - I'm a librarian in my day job). I've also got a knack for explaining complex information in a way people find useful. I'm especially interested in what librarians and other people who study information call 'tacit knowledge' - the stuff other people assume you know, but don't ever explain clearly.

What kinds of information?

Since 2010, I've run a site for people interested in exploring Paganism (and specifically religious witchcraft) called Seeking. It breaks down topics that often get overlooked or ignored in books about religious witchcraft and Wicca as well as other information to help that make sense.

I also have a small research consulting business called Seek Knowledge, Find Wisdom. Have you ever had a project that seemed too weird for your local library, or that might need more time than they have available? I can help with that. As well as being open to research questions, I blog there about research tools, techniques, and productivity.

Why this Patreon?

Many people have told me that Seeking has been a tremendous help to them over the years. I'd like to expand the resources there and make them available in more formats (like ebooks). That takes time and focus!

I'd also like to take on some more intensive research projects. You know those lists of associations for herbs and stones and other objects used for magic and ritual? I want to explore the stories and associations of different objects (like rose quartz, rosemary, or frankincense) and trace them back through different historical sources. That's a huge project, and it will take a lot of time, research materials, and planning.

Your support here will help provide resources so I can spend more time on research, and help me buy books for that research.

What to expect

My writing often goes in cycles, but you can expect the following kinds of things on an irregular basis:

  • Articles or essays in progress or next up on my list.
  • Interesting link roundups on particular topics or pointers at nifty things found online.
  • Comments on books I've found particularly interesting (here, you'll mostly find comments on Pagan/esoteric/magical ones, but not exclusively!)

And from time to time I may ask if there's a particular direction you're more interested in (to help me decide which projects or topics to focus on.)
