I love suspense. Writing suspenseful stories that will take you on a wild ride to a place where the heroine and hero always--this is the one constant in my books--achieve victory and redemption at the end. Oh, wait, there's one other constant. My editor once said that all of my fiction should come with a sticker that reads: No children or animals harmed in the making of a Jenny Milchman story. And it's true. I promise you that.

You know how I mentioned my editor? Well, something terrible happened this year, and she was fired. This left me without a publisher. Which left me without a way to get my stories to readers who were kindly asking for them, and also without a good chunk of much needed household income. And at that point, a very smart author told me that I should never again put my career in the hands of one big corporation, and he told me about Patreon.

I am so glad to be here, getting to write all of you. By supporting me, you will read exciting short stories, novellas, even chapters of never-before-seen novels, and get your hands on all sorts of other goodies, too. You'll be able to communicate directly with me, and play a role in forthcoming work, in assorted fun ways. If you're a writer, you'll find tips and perspectives that will help you achieve success. If you're a reader, you'll find great books--not just mine--for yourself or your book club, and early bird reads of my works in progress. Best of all, by becoming a supporter, you'll be taking the relationship between author and reader out of the hands of big business and putting it where it belongs. Between you and me.

I promise to give you one twisting, turning, terrifying, and triumphant ride.

A note about my rewards. I have two tracks, one for readers and one for emerging writers. You can also be both. At each level, I try to have something for both groups. If you're not a writer yourself, perhaps you know one and would like to gift your reward to that person. Could be a friend, co-worker, your child's English teacher, or maybe even you one day. One thing I've learned while traveling this country on book tour is that everyone has a story to tell.

First, you get my huge thanks.

You'll also get access to my patron-only feed, where I'll be posting updates and observations from the front lines of this crazy publishing industry, new reads and great books, along with videos, podcasts, photos from the mountains where I write, and anything else that seems interesting.

  • A special download of my short story The Closet, which till now has only appeared in print in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.

The Giving Tree
$500 or more per month 0 patrons

I feel silly even putting this up here, but as the New York Lotto says, "Hey, you never know."

At this support level, of course you get everything in all the previous levels AND I will come to your house and lead an in-person event of your choice. I'll attend your book club, give a speech at your social organization or charitable venture, edit your manuscript or query letter in person, offer inspirational coaching, or just hang out over lunch. It's up to you. (Within reason).

For now, I have to limit this to the Continental United States. But if you're somewhere else in the world, let me know, and we'll talk about it.
Goals

This is like the moment before your party starts and you’re waiting to see if anybody is going to come. Please, have something to drink. (If you already know me, you’ll know that I’m serving cupcakes too.)

My husband has been supporting my writing career for a very long time. I mean, very long. He’s covered expenses, taken over household responsibilities when I am on deadline (or too bummed out by rejections to cook), and given me quiet and solitude when I need them.

So my initial goal is to be able to take my husband out to dinner once or twice a month. Reconnect with each other, and tell him thanks.

I'm also excited to explore this model of readers supporting writers. Thanks for helping me plant this seed:
