About Jerusalism

Thanks for checking out the Jerusalism Patreon page! By donating to Jerusalism, you can support Israeli literature in English. We, at Jerusalism, envision a thriving Israeli literature further enriched by its expression in English which, in turn, will broaden the diversity and influence of Israeli literary culture.

Overall, Jerusalism exists:
  • To organize and lead the community of people interested in Israeli literature in English;
  • To create opportunities that foster deeper connections between Israeli culture and English language literature;
  • To showcase the quality and diversity of Israeli literary talent in English.

Since starting to run our events in 2014, Jerusalism has successfully organized over 60 events at various locations. The events have varied in content and participants, ranging from literary readings, to workshop, social gatherings, and more. For an archive of the events, feel free to browse through the event section of our Facebook page, or, to see some of the amazing pictures from the events, check out the photo page.

Jerusalism participants enjoy building relationships rooted in local literary culture. Readers, writers, and artists often feel isolated in their interests, and need a meeting place to develop bonds. Thanks to Jerusalism, people have countless opportunities not only to learn about contemporary artists and writers, but to connect with them, while interacting with each other. We aren't only exposing people to Israeli literary culture; together, we are creating it!

Given the changes caused by the pandemic, Jerusalism is shifting its focus from in-person activities to online events. We are exploring ways of fostering in-depth online experiences — we want to continue connecting people around their mutual love of Israeli literature. Right now, we are in the midst of running our first online reading series.

We have some big plans for the future, such as running an online magazine, organizing more high-quality events, developing a residency program, and more. But, we are starting small. For now, your donations will help us pay to unlock professional features of online platforms so that we can best facilitate a transition into the digital world. After moving some of our programming online, the next step will be to hire someone (finally!) to create a Jerusalism webpage.

The tiers for giving are only suggestions, so you can also give any amount that feels appropriate for you — even a $1 monthly donation will show your support for these ongoing cultural activities. (For those in the US, all donations go to to Jerusalism International, a registered 501(c)(3) US nonprofit, and are tax deductible. Contact us for more details.)

In time, we hope to start running in-person events again, and to harness online momentum back into events in different locations across Israel. Don't miss the fun of connecting literally, and join us — online or in-person — for an event!
Goals
$313.54 of $350 per month
As we approach this goal we will be using the funds to use professional social media features (like Zoom pro) for our free online events, and we will start saving to hire a professional web developer (finally!) to design the Jerusalism website.

Once we reach this goal, we allocate a portion of the funds to hire Israeli writers to run Jerusalism writing workshop :)
