Jessie. . . does art! (and other things)
Hi, my name is Jessie and it's my mission to help #humanizementalhealth through my modern-baroque style abstract art that I create as a part of my own mental health hygiene routine. As a suicide survivor diagnosed with bipolar disorder I want EVERYONE to know that they MATTER. You - you there, reading this. . . know that whatever is going on, it gets better, with time, it gets better
I believe that creativity and artistic expression have a big place in helping me manage my neurodiversity, I hope to help share that with others who might find the same. I quit my stable 9-5 job in October of 2018 to pursue my passions of art and helping others full time, knowing that putting my mental health "instability" out on the internet for any potential employer to see could severely limit my chances of ever being hired again. But that stigma is bullshit.
I hope to help normalize neurodiversity, stop the stigma of mental "illness", and humanize mental health - through art, education, empowerment, and honest conversations.

The healing powers of art
I didn't start really painting until 2016 when it became apparent that my mental health was not being managed well enough without an artistic outlet. About my mental health. . . I believe I've had bipolar disorder since my very early teens but I wasn't actually diagnosed until my early 20's, and even then I didn't take my treatment seriously until my late 20's - early 30's. I attempted suicide when I was in 9th grade and was Baker Acted into a 72 hour hold at a local residential facility where I lied to the treatment team telling them I was fine.
The truth was that I was embarrassed because I didn't know WHY I felt the way I did. I was "normal" one day, elated another, then felt like I didn't want to exist - for no apparent/warranted reason - for weeks, and usually settled into feeling like I was just going through the motions most days. It's sometimes like I'm a passenger in my own brain, not in control but just watching as my feelings and actions unfold, rational or not.
Making my art allows me a break from all of those feelings. It's my moment of zen. I paint because I have to. Painting is now as integral a part of my mental health hygiene as is my medication and diet/exercise.

Why Patreon?
I currently do not have a steady stream of income and would love to say that my art pays my bills one day (hopefully soon, because ya know, mortgages and prescriptions and pet food and such) so I'm opening up my creative process to my patrons through this wonderful site, Patreon.
By supporting me through any of the tiers you are helping me WORK more and worry less about where my money's coming from to pay my personal necessities as well as pay for what makes creating a possibility. I quit my job knowing that some months I may have to drive for Uber eats to make my mortgage payment, and ya know what? I am 100% ok with this.
I found myself sitting at the desk of a job where I was helping someone else's entrepreneurial dream come true in October of 2018 when I realized the 7th anniversary of my dad's death was approaching. My dad was my biggest creative cheerleader and if he were there to see how unsatisfied I was working hard on someone else's dream while I sat on a pile of my own ideas just bursting to be shared with the world - well, he'd tell me to be responsible probably, but I think he'd also tell me to go after my own creative dreams and help others. So I did what I usually do, listened to the part of the [imaginary] advice I liked best and I put in my two weeks' notice! Perhaps only having two months' expenses worth of savings was not the best decision, but life is seldom any fun without throwing caution to the wind sometimes.
From the end of October to the end of December 2018 I launched my website, jessiebritely.com, and started this Patreon page. I did four local markets with my art. By the magical combination of luck and preparation, I ended up with my bags (I have my art on tote bags!) on consignment in an art museum gift shop in Augusta, GA. I launched my DREAM EFFORT of helping fellow offbeat creatives start pursuing their passions - branded under Jessie Britely. I outlined 52 emails for the year with the goal to help others make 2019 their most excellent year yet! I have been BUSY. I made this creating thing my 9-5 (more like 8AM-8PM) and even though it's more work and more stressful, it's the work I LOVE doing and the positive/productive kind of stress.
Something to understand about me, I HATE asking for help. I'm learning to accept the kindness of my friends and even strangers now through Patreon because other people truly do want to help make the world a better place and (even when I'm doubting myself) they believe I can help in that mission! This is why I've started a Patreon page. I'm working hard to release content and I would love to give you, my Patreon Partner, a behind-the-scenes look at what that involves - plus a lotta extra goodies that no one else gets, because you're special.

I have a dream!
Transparency, sharing, candor, education, and support are all important to me and are what I hope to offer more of as I'm able to earn income through Patreon versus side hustles like VA'ing. The more my monthly income is fueled by my efforts to #humanizementalhealth through art or by helping fellow offbeat creatives pursue their passions, the more I can focus solely on it. I hope you'll be a part of my dream in achieving this!

Future Endeavors
Art - I'm currently painting and selling my works and wares online and at local markets - which has yet to show a profit!
Empowerment - I want to help as many other people as I can out there pursue their passions too. I'm a total self-help/organization/productivity/life hack nerd and I love boiling everything I've consumed in those fields down to the most helpful tactics to use on myself. Now, I'm sharing all of these tips and tricks and WORKSHEETS (I love worksheets) with YOU! Because we all rise when we lift each other up - I want you to succeed just as much as I hope for my own success (genuinely).
Podcast - My friend and I are starting a podcast and we could use some professional help getting it out in the world!
Youtube - I hope to help AS MANY human beings as I can in the world, and I hear Youtube is a great place to do that. For now I just have my laptop for equipment! I could use better equipment and pay someone to help with production (I would love to learn to edit but my time is better used elsewhere, promise)
The Future - I want to teach young girls that they're total bad-asses (but the age-appropriate term) and I do this through volunteer work. I would love to do it professionally through speaking to schools, but for now, it's in my "free" time.

I would love love LOVE to have 626 friends on this thing called the internet - and I would love love LOVE to know how I can help y'all in return for helping me with your support.
