Let’s Start With “Thank You” and an Introduction:
Thank you so much for coming by! I am Jennifer Liles, a licensed clinical social worker in the Kansas City metropolitan area who has also been writing about progressive politics and personal life as Maureen O’Danu for two decades now on various platforms. My mission is to assist as many people as possible in managing their mental health symptoms through provision of services and products, education and advocacy, locally and globally. Patreon allows me to do so in such a way that I can provide free services to those who can't afford to pay thanks to the generosity of those who can.

Out Of My Mind:
Out Of My Mind is a podcast and a portion of my website focused on helping people with depression, anxiety, and trauma histories cope with everyday life. Due to some significant life events (my husband is filing for disability and there have been a lot of things I've had to do by myself to assist with the process) the podcast is on hiatus and scheduled to resume in August of 2018.

Not only am I a mental health therapist, I am also a person living with my own issues with depression, anxiety, and trauma, as well as executive function issues caused by a head injury. "Out of My Mind" (credit to Jean Rossner, LMHC, for the name) is my column, community, and podcast about living a full life with mental illness, told from both my professional and personal perspective. The column will return in August at http://www.responsivellc.com/outofmymind, and some time in the last quarter of 2018 or first quarter of 2019 the Discord server and community forums will be up and running.

Topics include things like dealing with disability and varying levels of ability, technology that helps, navigating the US mental health system, dealing with friends and family, dealing with children, and specific question and answers for a large variety of related topics. My therapy clients and their immediate family can contact me directly and I will send them exclusive links to the podcasts before they are available to anyone other than Patrons.

Am I The Only One Dancing?
Named for my former website that was a more broadly based social justice and politics website, this podcast focuses on identifying the links between mental health issues, social justice issues, and the issues of the day, with regular calls to action to help people living with mental health issues, and those who love them, advocate for a better life.

Several times a week you'll find me creating a "tweet storm" on my Twitter on a social justice or political topic related to health care provision, mental health care, or how a particular issue will affect the mental and/or physical health of affected people.

So What Does My Patronage Pay For?

Unlike many Patreon campaigns, I am making all of my content available for free in at least one form regardless of level of support. Your support goes not to getting cool bling and exclusive access, but toward assuring access to all. It goes to keeping all of my spaces ad free so that I don't have to spend valuable time ensuring all the ads I'm served are appropriate and malware free.

If my content is helping to support my family, I can do more writing and educating — and I really enjoy writing and educating, and if you’re still reading, you enjoy reading my writing and educating.

Finally, I have a (long term) goal of forming a non-profit company that pays for therapy on a partial or full basis for people in need, so that they can see private therapists increase their choices for service providers.

The Bottom Line:

Your patronage will increase the amount of writing I do that will teach people about mental health and social justice, will help me replace my husband's income so he can retire and allow his body to heal, and will go towards building an extensive guided self help and referral community that fills in gaps in mental health provision in the United States. If magic happens and I get more than $4000/month in regular contributions, I will create a non-profit mental health therapy scholarship fund that small therapy offices across the United States will be able to access to request funding for mental health services for people who fall in the gaps in coverage, which will be funded in part through crowd funding and in part through solicitation of major donors.

Your patronage determines whether or not I can continue with this experiment of crowdfunding a gap in mental health provision in America. Let's make this work!
