I'm the creator of  the dark fantasy universes of The Moon Road and Sorrows Hill, with stories and novels (and some poems too) drawn from the myths, legends and romance of worlds you may not have seen much of in these genres: the borderlands of the Southwest and the mountains of Civil War-era Appalachia.

The Moon Road Universe
The Moon Road is a living thing, a sentient (we think) highway that links all the worlds and times.  It's drawn to places of power, and Soledad City, a sprawling desert city somewhere between the Pacific and the Rio Grande, is one of those places, its gritty streets teeming with dark and dirty magics.  Some people can walk the Moon Road; some are violently (and bloodily) rejected.  Only the Road knows why.

An old and neverending war is raging on the Road.  The Shadows, beings from outside our universe, are determined to control it -- and all the worlds it connects.  All the stories and novels from the contemporary and historical series are linked by that larger storyline.

Soledad City
Soledad City is all the dusty desert bordertowns you ever heard of rolled into one, a blend of Anglo, Mexican and Native cultures with a little bit of voodoo thrown in.  It's home to people like the fearsome witch Mama Silva, the reluctant sorcerer Lucas Horne, the Moon Road exile known as the Bone Angel and other strange folk, some magical and some not.

Some stories are also set in the Old West version of Soledad's universe, where Sixkiller the hired gun takes his orders from the devil and Longman the shapechanging bounty hunter rides the borderlands with the help of a witch's song.

Sorrows Hill
The Sorrows Hill series takes place largely in Civil War era Appalachia and Virginia,  with many detours into the faerie realms beneath that mysterious Hill.  The Sorrows Hill world features the stories of the Office of Extraordinary Phenomena, Abraham Lincoln's shadow agency working tirelessly to keep the country safe from dark magics everywhere. It's also home to people like the witch Maddie Cain and the blackhearted  Merchant clan, traffickers in dark magics for generations.

What am I creating?
I'm creating  the stories of the Moon Road and Sorrows Hill worlds for publication  in ebook and graphic forms, to be released through Amazon Kindle and other ebook outlets, as well as in illustrated and video formats through Slideshare, YouTube and Issuu.

Why Patreon?
Patreon supports dreams and dreamers!  That's why I'm excited to be part of this new community for creative people, because it's committed to helping us make fabulous new things,  touch hearts and minds -- and change the world.

You may have heard of Kickstarter, the site that helps people raise money for a creative project.  Well, Patreon is a bit like that -- except that it lets donors support creative work on a regular basis rather than just once.

How does it work?

You can choose to support my work by donating as little as $1 toward the production of a new story, novella or multimedia production -- or as much as $100 or more.  And you get something in return -- a reward (or two, or three) for each donation you make.  You can even set up a monthly budget if you like.  And Patreon now allows donors to make their pledges via PayPal -- even easier!

Why support me?

Because we all need magic, wonder -- and strange and fascinating worlds to escape to.  By helping me publish my stories and novels, you'll be helping readers all over the world to discover a new kind of fantasy fiction -- a new territory for the imagination.

My goal is to bring all the Moon Road stories to life for readers to enjoy.  Another dream project is to produce a new fantasy zine that would support the work of  new and emerging fantasy artists and writers.  But that's down the line. For now, though, I'd love any donations you can make to bring my characters to life on the digital page and help other writers find the courage and the support to do that too.

The beauty of Patreon is that we all create a community of real people who believe that creative work can make a difference in the world. And it can.   In writing and image making, my goal is just this: to show you wondrous things from our world and the worlds of the imagination - things you wouldn't otherwise see.

I can't wait to share this journey with you!
