ABOUT ME, MY WORK & THIS PATREON
Or In the Event That the Comic Was Not Enough for Your Inquisitive Mind
Who Are You?
My name is J. M. DeSantis, and I’m a writer and artist (Write-ist). I write prose fiction, comics, and poetry, and I work in traditional media as an artist (typically mixed-media). I’ve authored a number of stories and artworks in the fantasy, horror, and humour genres, both traditionally published and self-published. These include my dark fantasy comic series, Chadhiyana, and my humorous horror web-comic, Gentleman Cthulhu: Emeritus Moribus Monstrum.
Why Are You on Patreon?
Like most creators, I’m here to help fund my creative endevours and connect with fans.
More specifically, I prefer writing and illustrating my own stories, but it’s a slow build when you’re not working on established properties. I’m on Patreon to create a steady, base income and offset some business costs as I work toward removing the need for a second job (full-time teacher), continue to produce my work, grow my fan base, and grow as a writer and artist.
What is Patreon?
Patreon is a website that allows people to support creators on an on-going basis. Creators in turn offer rewards to their patrons for helping them reach their goals. I’m doing much the same and trying earnestly to make each and every patron’s generous support worthwhile.
What’s in Your Patrons-Only Feed?
Like all of my web-based projects (my websites, blog, newsletter, etc), my Patreon is a constant work-in-progress. I do my best to keep my patrons updated on my work and projects, which includes behind-the-scenes access, news before I announce it on my blog or social media, and even exclusive information (unless I’m under contract not to speak about it). Best of all, all patrons at every level have access to the feed!
How Rewards Are Distributed
Digital rewards are released through this page (under the digital reward tag) as soon as they’re available and remain available for as long as you’re a patron (even previously released rewards are accessible). Printed materials, however, follow a slightly different system.
Patrons in the $15.00 and up tiers receive printed, signed copies of my self-published work (books, prints, etc). These rewards are mailed at the end of each quarter of the year in which they’re published, such as follows:
- Quarter 1 (Jan – Mar): mailed in April
- Quarter 2 (Apr – Jun): mailed in July
- Quarter 3 (Jul – Sep): mailed in Oct
- Quarter 4 (Oct – Dec): mailed in Jan (of the following year; though if I can get it out before the Holidays, I will)
Keep in mind, you qualify for a mailing even if you become a patron at these levels part of the way into a quarter (i.e. if you become a $30 patron in May, you still get the Quarter 2 mailing); however, cancelling before a quarter ends disqualifies you from that mailing.
Also, if for any reason nothing is released in a particular quarter, I'll create something exclusive!
Patron Reward "Stories"
or What’s with your Strange Reward Descriptions?
When developing my Patreon, I had the idea of adding artwork and flavour text to my reward descriptions. It’s something extra I thought would add some “texture” to the rewards (and I love texture, by the way, in my writing and art). And who knows? Perhaps I’ll develop something more from them...
Will You Hate Me if I Don’t Contribute/Stop Contributing?
Of course not! Patreon isn’t the only way to support my work, and I can’t expect anyone to be able to or want to support me in this way. You can show your support by purchasing my writing and art or even by spreading the word about my work. Most importantly, I love creating too much to ever stop, so I’ll keep writing and arting either way, and my blog and web-comic will remain free.
