I've spent my entire adult life getting storytelling under my fingernails. I started my journey at Berklee College of Music, where I was immersed in both the rich history of music over the past two millennia, and surrounded by musical storytellers from all over the world revealing their narrative power through song and harmony.

Then I began to explore what it would mean to apply my own imagination through creative truth-telling, collaborating with other creative artists on films and TV programs whose stories took me around the world. From an inner city classroom in Los Angeles, where a troubled child learns to articulate his challenges at home to his teacher, to the heartland of Texas, where, through the production of the classic film Giant, a small town grapples with engrained prejudices, my work in Hollywood taught me how the knowledge we accept as truthful, we must first come to love through imagination.

Since then, I've kept that love of narrative alive, from my songwriting collaboration with my sister, Joy Clarkson, through our band the Two Benedictions, to my audiobook narration, through which I've provided award-winning voiceover for beloved children's series like The Green Ember and the Old Sam books.

Now I'm in the midst of telling a new story,  cast into new studies, through a PhD in Theology in the Medieval University of St Andrews, on the coast of Scotland. Tucked away in this quiet, monastic corner of the world, I'm beginning to unravel how it is that the music we hear in sacred settings helps us tell our own stories, and understand our relationship with our creator. This innovative research is crossing uncharted waters of research between theology and music, and the potential results are very exciting. I hope that in time, my research here at St Andrews will help to affirm that value of music in helping us encounter God, and come into a deeper participation in the life of the Divine, both through the worship of the Church, and in the beauty and grandeur of creation itself.

To make this possible, I need your help. Tuition costs for an American student studying abroad at a prestigious university like St Andrews are substantial. By supporting me here on Patreon, you are giving me the assistance I need to press forward in this exciting study, and to allow me to keep composing new music along the way. You are the link that helps me tie together this invaluable research, and the world of my own artistic expression which has drawn me to further understand the theology behind it.

Will you join me on this exciting journey and enter into my story?
