About Joe Omundson

Hey there, thanks for visiting my Patreon page!

I am a writer on Medium, where I create articles about topics including the ex-Christian experience, travel, frugal lifestyles, and economic justice.

I started blogging in 2014 as I was quitting my engineering job to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. Hiking for seven months changed my life, and instead of returning to engineering I started living in vehicles, eliminating most of my living expenses so I could spend my time doing what mattered to me.

Now that I was free to choose a new life path, I had to figure out what that was, and every time I analyzed it I landed on writing. I could travel all I wanted, follow my curiosity, and all the interesting experiences would directly fuel my work, which I could do from anywhere.

I want to devote my life to understanding as much as I can about the world and sharing my most important discoveries. I'm particularly interested in environmentalism, economic justice, and the impact of religion on society.

In December 2019 I left my food service job, and now I'm relying on Medium and Patreon for all my income.

Any amount you can give helps me greatly because my expenses are small. I have recurring expenses (cell phone, auto insurance, etc.) of about $110/month. Beyond that, my biggest expenses are food and diesel. I can survive on a total of $300/month if I stay in one place, but I want to be free to explore and also save money for repairs and emergencies, so I need to shoot for at least $800/month.

There are no tiers; anyone who contributes $1/month or more gets the same access, because I don't want to stratify people based on their ability to contribute. I appreciate whatever help you can afford.

Thank you very much for your time and generosity! I look forward to sharing more with you.
Joe
Goals
$45.90 of $300 per month
With $300/month, I will have my bare minimum needs met: all of my monthly utilities and food costs. No matter what else happens, I'll have an internet connection and food in my stomach, so I can keep writing articles for you to enjoy.
