My name is Jono Doiron (JON-NO DO-I-RUN). I create narrative cartoon paintings and sell them. (You can see examples on my website here: www.jonodoiron.com)
Back in August 2013, I made a satisfying sale to a collector (who has now become a patron) who requested to see one of my works he was interested in adding to his collection. (The image above. Yes, Casper's tattoo says what you think it does.)
He lives in the same city, and so I met him in his office and brought the painting with me... along with a folder containing developmental sketches of the work itself. While he enjoyed the painting even more in person (and purchased it a short time later) he was even more enthusiastic over the folder containing all the sketches and thought that went into creating the painting itself! He insisted I had to do something with these drawings and find a way to share them with people!
While I am OK with the idea of sharing my process, I refrained from it previously because I thought I would be "spoiling the magic" for people and ruining the work's value by showing how I created it.
I have since found that to be the opposite. Sharing my process has increased other people's enjoyment and appreciation of my paintings.
The conversation with that collector lead to the THOUGHS & PROGRESS booklet series. A series of booklets chronicling the making of an individual paintings. A hard copy was produced and included with each major painting I did in the future.
Just for reading this - and because I want to show you how deep my process can be - I would like to offer you a free THOUGHS & PROGRESS E-book of one of my most popular paintings to date THAT LAUGH! (the image pictured above).
You can read it here at no cost to you. There is no catch - I just want you to enjoy it and see what I'm all about.
With gratitude, the effect my painted imagery has brought to others has generated laughter, deep thought, and more recently, even tears. I am touched by those connections and want to create more of them.
So now, I am asking for your help to make that mission a reality.
I want to be clear: I'm VERY gracious of my social media support and verbal praise I receive about my work ...but as we all know, you can not pay your rent with likes, you can not buy groceries with retweets and you can not afford your power bill with your follower count.
While I enjoy seeing people's reaction to art and will always share it, artists do not get paid to show their work - they get paid when the sell their work (or, if they have been contracted for some assignment). And sometimes sales are not as frequent as we would like them to be. And sometimes there are long gaps between contracts.
I'm not above rolling up my sleeves and balancing my art career with alternative income when things are slow with my business. I do not have entitlement issues, I just know with conviction my time on this planet would be better suited making art.
So, how can you help? And what can I do for YOU in return?
First, I want to talk about what I'm offering YOU.
Instead of the "Here it is, what do ya think?" presentation I do once paintings are completed, I want you to join me DURING the creation!
Through Patreon's subscriber-only posts, I will be sharing my ENTIRE process with you - step by step - as I complete each image! (A process which one of my artist friends referred to as "EXTENSIVE".) AND - you can ask me direct questions about the process. I will answer everything - right down to where the lead is harvested in the pencils I use!
I have some rewards in place for you on the right hand side that I not only think you'll enjoy, but will allow me to get to know you too! Know that whatever amount* you choose to pledge will directly assist me with more time in the studio creating art that you love.
I thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to read this and considering to aid my quest.
P.S: Don't forget your free copy of my THOUGHTS & PROGRESS E-book! You can read it here.
P.P.S: Have an IDEA for a reward I could offer that you would like to see?? I am totally open to suggestions! Let me know here.
*Please note: All pledge amounts are converted into USD
