About Jackary Salem

Hello! My name is Jack, and I'm an author who cares about quality. I love good plot, good pacing, and above all else, good writing. Unfortunately, our society has catered so much to the masses and their love of pop-lit that it's become genuinely difficult to find well-written, traditionally published books. And more difficult than that? Finding books willing to explore relatable, at least semi-realistic neurodivergent characters.

Sure, there are more books with LGBTQIA characters, but they're largely about obviously LGBTQIA problems, like bullying, disapproving parents, and finding yourself. What's missing is genuine representation, where those LGBTQIA characters are just people whose issues don't revolve around their sexual and/or gender orientation. Mainstream representation of LGBTQIA characters become about the character's sexuality and/or gender orientation rather than just being a representation, and that's not even touching on neurodivergents.

Mainstream characters have anxiety issues and depression that just "go away" once they find love. Sadists and psychopaths (when they're protagonists) get "normal," healthy emotional ranges for the people they love. It ends up being a neurotypical character wearing a neurodivergent skin suit, and I'm tired of it.

Now, a lot of you know me from my Hannibal fanfiction Paragon. If you're one of those people, you already know I freely write both healthy and unhealthy relationships. When it's unhealthy, I'll say so. No excuses. No pretending. Just because we enjoy reading unhealthy relationships doesn't mean we support them in real life. The key is to admit that they're unhealthy rather than idolizing them. We all have our kinks and our guilty pleasures, and we don't have to justify them. This is a no-shame zone.

It's okay to like what you like.
It's okay to take pride in who you are.
Your feelings are valid.

If you'd like to support me but aren't ready/able to do donate monthly, one-time donations are available at ko-fi.com/jsalem. As always, thank you for any support you give, be it donations, comments, or even just reading my work. And remember:

You are amazing.

You are loved.

When I reach $1000 per month, I'll take a poll for what Hannigram fic idea I should do next and dedicate each chapter to a Patron who helped me get there.
