Thank you for visiting.

WEBIGTUMBLRSHOP
Mission

I am dedicated to creating and nourishing cultural practices through the lens of social justice, equity, and liberation politics. I am focused on dismantling institutional processes in Contemporary Art that perpetuate white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism.

Art Practice

I work in a multidisciplinary practice combining photography, performance, and collage to create works that investigate representations of intimacy, the queer body, and built environments.

Biography

Juan Franco, born in Bogotá, Colombia, is a visual and performance artist, community organizer, and arts educator.
Franco is a Co-Founder and Lead Organizer of festival:festival, a FREE visual and performing arts festival in Seattle. This arts festival focuses on Seattle artists and practices that engage with intersectional structures and identities.

As an art educator, Franco currently works at Youth in Focus, where they empower urban youth through the language of analog photography and its history. These courses center students’ identities and personal narratives while developing skills in public speaking, constructive criticism, and critical thinking.

Franco received a BFA in Art from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle graduating with the highest honors, summa cum laude. In observing the lack of accessible and equitable artists spaces in the city, Franco began a curatorial practice to carve spaces for young artists. This has led them to enroll in an MA in Art History at the University of Washington with a focus on Contemporary Art & Curatorial Studies. They will complete their degree in 2019.
