Junior High is a non-profit community space in Los Angeles, California. We promote the artistic pursuits of marginalized voices through events and arts education.

We are a gallery. A venue. And a retail store. Plus, we have a magazine.

Jr Hi the Magazine is an extension of our physical space. Each issue features conversations with and conducted by artists and activists. The publication serves to showcase underserved perspectives on the narratives of feminism, survival, and creativity.

Physical spaces are expensive. Magazines are too. It costs us $3,000/month to stay open (and that's just rent!) We also have utility bills, supplies and LABOR. Junior High is run entirely by volunteers. No one on our staff makes a monetary profit, least of all our principal organizers. You can read more about our costs here

The magazine costs us $2,000 to print 250 copies of each issue. Plus, we have about 30 contributors each issue (from hair and make-up to stylists and photographers). Not only do we feature young, marginalized artists, but we employ them too.

With the space and the magazine, hiring women is a hugely important pillar -- both in closing the gender wage gap and in building confidence. Your support will get women and POC paid and ready to take on new projects as oftentimes Junior High is their first experience with curation, retail, and finances. And Jr Hi the Magazine is their first foray into professional editorial work.

Your support will change the structure of Junior High completely. With enough monthly support, we can release the burden of making enough money from our event programming. This will free up the calendar for events with smaller (but just as important) draws and will allow us to PAY our contributors, curators, and volunteers far more than our current structure allows.

We can't wait to share behind the scenes stuff with you + curate special playlists, exclusive merchandise, and access to content so cool we haven't even thought of it yet.

Follow us on Instagram @juniorhighla to stay up to date with the Space and the Mag. It's a lot.

With $3,000 a month we can pay rent. This would leave all of our donations and ticketing sales to fund our magazine and pay our volunteers. I can hear them thanking you from here.
