Hello!
Just as an FYI, I will restart the Patreon Mentorships in Fall 2015- it was a fun pilot program these past few months, but I need to focus on personal stuff for the time being! Check back later this year :)
My name is Justin, I'm a concept artist in the games industry. I went to Art Center College of Design, which, as any art school grad can tell you, means I have thoughts and feelings about art education. (And like most grads, I also have a heaping pile of hot, steaming student debt!)
Sparing you the gory details, I really believe one-on-one mentorship is one of the most successful and vital forms of art education. Mentors have traditionally been a scarce resource, but platforms like Patreon make it accessible to professionals, and easy to discover for students!
Mentorship Structure:
The mentorships will not have a predefined curriculum, as everyone's goals and level are different, and the amount of time and money that people will invest changes. I want people who opt in for one session to get as much for their money as people who stay in for a year.
Each session, to be held over Skype, will last approximately 1 hour over which will involve:
-Critique, deep discussion and draw-overs\paint-overs of things you are working on.
-Analysis, looking at both contemporary and classical work and dissecting what makes it successful.
-Theory, understanding ideas and fundamentals to help improve areas of your work.
-Demo, tutorials of specific techniques and methodologies to help expand your vocabulary.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a place for delicacy. My critique is not going to be sugar coated. If you're just starting, this is not the mentorship for you.
