About Kainaat Astronomy

My name is Salman Hameed and I'm a professor at Hampshire College and Five College Astronomy Department (FCAD) in Massachusetts, US. I grew up in Pakistan. I have been creating and hosting astronomy videos in Urdu over the past few years. The videos are aimed at a broad audience to celebrate curiosity and share a sense of wonder about the universe in Urdu. These videos are all available ad-free and free-of-cost on the YouTube channel

We have created over 80 videos with the help of a few volunteers (all working for free) with whatever limited time we can find. You have all responded with a tremendous amount of encouragement. In return, we would love to add more visuals to the videos and improve the overall quality. In addition, there are a lot of requests for an Urdu series on Introductory Astronomy and for topics like Search for Life in the Universe, Mysteries of Dark Matter and Dark Energy, and the Origins of Galaxies and Our Universe.

This brings me to your generosity. I know that even a dollar a month can be a hardship on most people around the world. I thank everyone for watching the videos as that in itself counts as tremendous support. But if you can afford to make any monthly contribution, that will help us immensely in new content creation and in improving the channel (and in the US, it is tax-deductible as Kainaat Studios is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity). With your help, I really hope that we can make this one of the best astronomy channels in the world (hey - I mean it!).

I feel passionately about this project because I owe a deep gratitude to another science communicator. The direction of my life changed when I watched the first episode of Carl Sagan's Cosmos. I was in 9th grade at the time and living in Karachi. After 17 years, I obtained my PhD. in astronomy. I never had a chance to meet Sagan in person but he altered the course of my life continents away in less than an hour and just via television. Since then I have a deep passion for science and a deep respect for science communication. I believe that sharing a sense of wonder about our cosmos can genuinely bring a positive change in our world.
