About Kalina Suter

Hello welcome to my Patreon!

I have often felt obligated to pick one creative discipline. If it was drawing, I had to give 100% to drawing, if it was circus, then only circus. For years I limited myself thinking that there wasn't enough space for all my creative outlets. Patreon offers the perfect place for all of it to co-exist, a place where you can see the full picture of who I am as an artist, as well as a place that allows me to dive into the potential of these endeavors in ways I've never been able to before.

Who am I and what I do:
I am a professional trapeze artist with roots in modern dance. But I'm really a movement geek. I simply LOVE learning about the body, how to move it in different ways, whether that be for a creative performance or for functional fitness. This has been my life's focus for the last 20 years.
I also use my love for movement to coach flexibility and trapeze. I'm as passionate about helping others connect to with their bodies movement as I am in developing my own practice.
When I'm not moving I draw, paint, make pottery and collect A LOT of fallen leaves. Visual art has always been a close second to the movement world.  With COVID I realised how quickly my aerial world could disappear, I needed a creative outlet, something that wasn't as effected by external circumstances. Pen, paper and some leaves felt like a pretty sure thing. This awoke aspirations to be a botanical illustrator and live by the sea with my big dog (don't have the dog...).

Current Projects:
An example of what you can expect to see on this platform.

  • Bi-weekly post, these can be writings, sketches, videos of work in progress, musings on life and the creative process, behind the scenes footage, or blooper videos. Basically a bit of anything and everything I find interesting to share with you. Your feedback is highly encouraged.
  • Dance trapeze research: I'm continually experimenting with new ways of moving on my favorite apparatus. This is grounded in intuition and authentic movement rather than tricks. I am developing a syllabus that I can offer to others wishing to go down that route with trapeze.
  • The place between(research & development): My ground fabric act that I have been working on for the last 2 years. Further research for the act to take to a sight specific outdoor location to be filmed.
  • Developing my botanical drawing/painting skills. You'll be able to make requests for what you'd like to see, you'll also have opportunities to receive artwork.

Goals
