Hey everyone.

I'm Karen Botha, and I need your time, please.

I'm the author of Romantic Mystery and Suspense novels, see link below. My work has great reviews (see below) and I've published 13 novels so far, plus some collections. The most recent novel, Jessie, came out on 27th December 2019, the next is due out at the end of February.

Now, here's the problem. I have a full time job as a massage therapist and reflexologist, plus my writing career, which after all the promotion, side gigs, interviews, travel, creative designs etc writing must easily take up 50 to 60 hours per week. Easy! That's on top of the 'day job.'
I'm not crying into my English tea about it, I do this because I adore it
.

But.

Writing not only takes time, it takes cash. And there's only so much of that to go around to cover the household bills and all the costs associated with publishing -- cover designers, promotional materials, editors, proof readers, VA's plus a list of software as long as your arm. That's why I'm on here, because I know I have something. People love what I write (see below), but I need to advertise to readers to make writing a sustainable income. After everything else that I have going out, there's not enough left to advertise effectively.

Therein starts the viscous circle. If I don't advertise, I'll never get more readers, but without readers I can't advertise.

You get the picture!

Real life
Plus, there's the issue of real life getting in the way of writing and therefore a stable income. Both my parents are sick and live separate, 300 miles away from where I'm based in London. When I need to travel up there to help them, not only does that slow down my writing, but it also means I can't work in my 'day job' as a therapist as all my clients are based in London.

Again, I'm not being a weeping willow, but these factors effect my ability to fulfil the dream I'm so close to grasping.

So, I guess by now you know why I need a Patreon?
My income is becoming increasingly unstable as a result of writing. When I was just a therapist, we had a batch of regular clients and although we could never judge when they would come, we knew roughly what our monthly disposable income would be.

But, now that I'm writing, if I want to earn more, I need to produce more books. That means working less hours and spending more on all the things that go towards creating a professional piece of work that readers will love.

So, before I can earn more, I need to take a dip in my income. That's all fine, I've done that and like I say, I've gotten 13 books under my belt with a ton more scheduled...

But, no-one knows!

How can you help?
I'd love you to invest in my writing business so that I can advertise my books. It's not unusual for successful authors to spend anywhere up to $30k per month on advertising. I don't have that kind of money and frankly I guess you'd be shocked if I did!

I'm also not expecting you to be able to support that level of income, but enough to get me off the ground so that I can earn what is needed from my books so I then have something to reinvest and eventually get myself up to that level would be like an absolute godsend.

My pledge
I promise that if you invest in me, I will invest that back in advertising. And I'll do it well.

I will trial covers to ensure the best click through rates, I will run multiple ads on social media and continue to trial to get the best cost per click.

As a quick aside here, before I became a therapist, I was head of online marketing for a blue chip multinational so I can work this, I just need the budget.

So, what do you get?

Here are some of the blogger reviews of my work:

"It had drama and problems that gave the storyline some dynamics and it made me cheer for them to end up together in the end, but it had that romance and the "This is me" aspect that made me happy."

Buckle Up pulled me in at start and couldn't put it down. It is fast paced, developed well and includes a great romance. I definitely recommend Buckle Up. Amy's MM Romance Reads

This is a stirring story of intrigue and excitement and I urge you to grab your nearest copy and dive in. I wholeheartedly enjoyed this book and couldn't recommend it enough. staceyisreading

This is a well written story that I thoroughly enjoyed!
It was an easy story to read with some great characters. I read quite a lot of books that fall in this genre and this was one of the best ones I have read so far this year. The book had just the right amount of detail for me to make it an enjoyable read without detracting from the main plot line.
The story has a good pace and I read it the same day I started it as I needed to see what would happen at the end - and I wasn't disappointed!

'Daisy' written by Karen Botha is a contemporary romance and again my first by this author.
I thought it was a great start of a new series because of the storyline.
It isn't just romance and sexual tensions, but also a bit of mystery and strong characters.
They hold my interest from beginning till the end.
So well done!
It got my looking forward to the other books in this series.

The illegal activity then the criminal background. This was like a modern day Film Noir with a bit of sexy. I really enjoyed the story. Sixtinderweeks.com

The prose is clear and seductive. The characters are impulsive, secretive, and vulnerable. And the plot told from different POVs is an ominous mix of twists, turns, violence, corruption, deception, sex, murder, and mixed-race romance.

"Dramatic, suspenseful, and steamy!" says @WBTBBookReviews

" gripping story laced with grit and adventure that had me turning the pages in a reading frenzy." says @stacyisreading

"Daisy isn't just the title of the book, but also the main character. She's portrayed as a confident and determined business woman. Overall, there were some character development, but the thing I really liked about the characters was that they were intriguing and complex, and definitely not black and white, good and evil kind of characters.
The plot was also interesting, it had twists and turns, suspense and mystery, romance and sexual tension, and all of that gave the book a good tone that left me focus on each page until the very end. " JessBookishLife

"Daisy is a Fresh, vibrant, Suspenseful, Sexy Romance, with some exciting twists, great characterisation, which makes for a compulsive read, I couldn't put down." says @Dough_nut81

"Botha's way of drawing you in, making you second guess yourself, and adding a surprising ending is skillful and cunning." says @eclecticreview

"I recommend it as it's quite a fast paced book and a good page turner that makes you guessing along the way." says @MagicOfWorldsBE

"Dramatic, suspenseful, and steamy!" says @WBTBBookReviews

"A gripping story that had me grasping at straws literally until the last word." Says @proudbookreview

"The spins and twists are spot on and will cause readers to pause gaped mouth more than once, and even when you think you know... you don't. You have to read to the very. Last. Word!" Says Felicia Denise

"This is the third book I have read of Karen Botha and I loved it too. This was a Romantic Suspense and it didn't fail with the amount of both genres. The author has a way with creating a story and giving us just enough information and mystery that make us want to turn the page.
This story follows three characters since it has different POVs, but mainly it's about Lucy. And all of the character complex, well written and with secrets, but the most fun about them was their interactions, the friendships, family relationships, the tension, the mystery, and the romance.
The storyline was very exciting, with twist and turns, a fast pace and a good flow that made me wonder about each page and each character. I never really knew where the book was going so that was a positive thing. And I'm not say much about it because it's a suspense book and you guys should be surprised and enjoy each moment.

Overall, Karen Botha is amazing. She knows how to make us wonder, and relate to the characters as well as being drawn to the storytelling. It was a great start of a series." @JessicaAlmie
