About

Hello! I'm Karen Osborne, author of speculative fiction, visual storyteller, and violinist. I'm the author of Architects of Memory (9/8) and Engines of Oblivion (2/9/21) from Tor Books, as well as short fiction at Uncanny, Fireside, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Escape Pod, Robot Dinosaurs, and more. I'm a huge Star Trek nerd, spent most of a decade taping other people's weddings for the living, and I'm learning the theremin.

I absolutely love worldbuilding, and I did a small starship's worth of it for my debut duology. Now that I'm done with the duology and there's a pandemic on, it all needs a home. (A home in your brain.) I have *so many histories* in my head, you guys. I have character descriptions for people who lived two hundred years before Ashlan Jackson was born. I actually wrote the Alien Attack Squad theme and I might try to play it on the theremin. I can tell you the name of the Friday drink special in the Rio cit lounge. What's more, all of those planets mentioned in the series -- Cana, Grenadier, Gethsemane -- have people living on them,* and all of those people have stories. They've just been through a pretty terrible war, after all.

And that's where we're going to start with this Patreon, with this soft launch so I can get used to the schedule. Every month, I'll drop some brand-new, delectable short fiction and deleted scenes from the Architectsverse into your eyeballs, as well as the occasional unpublished treat or bite of space-franchise fanfic. We're going to start there, I think, and then build as the spirit takes us. Future levels may include merch (Architects shirts! Aurora Intergalactic logo pins! You know you want your cit-tags.) There also may be bespoke microfiction for patrons (because it's fun!), as well as advice and techniques to get the most out of your own photos and videos.

Your support will not only go to grow the Architectsverse, but it'll help to buy diapers for my baby and keep a roof over our heads in these turbulent times. Thanks for joining me on this journey, and I can't wait to see what's out there.

*well, most of them do. But that would be a spoiler.
