Thank you for checking my Patreon Page and for engaging with my words and works!  I especially want to take a moment to offer my gratitude to those of you who jumped at the opportunity to become Patrons of my arts.

Patreon has impacted my writing life profoundly. Knowing there are people who want me to write, who look forward to my words, and who are willing to offer their support through a monthly contribution has given me a kind of permission to write that I've not enjoyed since I was a college student. Honestly, I was a bit nervous at the prospect of being obliged to write. I don't respond well to obligation or imposed deadlines. The Muse arrives in her own time!  She and I are both pretty stubborn.

What I've come to remember, since beginning to write here, is that the more I can write, the more I want to write. The more I write, the better I get at it. Doing anything more often makes you better at it. So, I've also excitedly watched my writing improve.  Patreon has offered me practice and development as well as a place to showcase different writing styles, topics and genres.

So, I'm here for all of those reasons.

I'm also here because I'm currently working on three books for publication. Obviously, I can only focus on one big project at a time--that's how my creative process works. But, I'm collecting thoughts, scribbling notes and allowing inspiration for the others to bubble up.  As the sole-parent of two near-adult kids, and as someone who earns a really meager income teaching spiritual paths, Patreon makes it financially feasible for me to dedicate time for writing.  It would not be possible for me to do so otherwise. Instead, I'd be scrambling to teach more classes to make ends meet.

As of November 2017, Patreon is allowing me to spend time writing instead of scrambling to make ends meet financially. I am looking forward to it affording me the chance to get away on writing retreat every few months. I know lots of writers who can sit down and churn out three pages of writing everyday like clockwork.  I can write a two-page essay if I make myself. But, I cannot write those three pages that add up to fifteen, sixty, three hundred, a book.  For that, I need time away from my household, my kids, my students and my daily round.  For that, I need more space than my corner-of-the-bedroom chair with the laptop stand where I currently write my essays and articles.

Books ask me for a big table to spread out sheets of paper and highlighters. Books require that I not stop working to cook dinner, clean up the dishes, empty the litter box or pick up the kid from school. Books demand I have room to pace around and talk to myself without my teenager yelling,"What did you say?"  Books want draft pages covered in red ink strewn across a floor where the cat doesn't mistake them for toys. Books want me writing, reading, editing and re-writing for a stretch of at least three days and nights.

So, that's what I'm hoping for.  There's a retreat center deep in the woods of Western Massachusetts. For a reasonable price, it offers cabins without electricity or wifi.  There's a woodstove and propane cooktop. Big windows invite the trees and stars to press their faces against the glass and whisper their secrets directly into my fingers as they fly across the keyboard. There's an outhouse down the forest trail and, if I must break for a bit, a little natural food co-op about fifteen minutes down the road. There is a deep, deep silence--the kind that lends itself to the kind of writing I do.  I need days there.  And, I need them more than once a year.

My last book was exactly 100 pages and took three years to write. Twice during those three years, I was able to slip away on retreat for four days each time. So, in reality, I wrote it in eight days.  I'd like very much for the opportunity to get these next books out faster. They become really heavy to carry in my mind while they wait and wait for the chance to be written.
So, when you're looking at my financial goals here on Patreon, that's what you're seeing.  $500 per month will allow me to keep up with writing more frequent essays, but will also allow me to get to that cabin with a battery pack and some wool socks!

You can find my first book, A Witch's Book of Silence on Amazon. You can find some of my essays at Gods and Radicals where I'm a new contributor. I ocassionally post on Medium and often post to facebook. I am currently working on submissions for some other exiciting journals, and I'll keep you updated about their publication.

You are making it feasible and enjoyable for me to write!  Thank you for that!  I hope you'll share my writing and encourage others to become my Patrons.

Blessings of Love & Power--Karina

I am currently working on a few larger writing projects for publication. This level of contribution really makes a difference in my ability to commit the level of uninterrupted focus I need, as a writer, to develop and edit these book-drafts.  As thanks for your commitment to supporting these projects, I'll make pieces of the drafts available to you here on Patreon.
Sustainer

Your $72/month contribution sustains my capacity for the time, space, energy, fortitude and stick-to-it-iveness necessary for me to complete my books and bring them to publication.
Your reward is knowing you are supporting this writer in a really substantial way.  And, my gift to you is a pre-publication draft of the book(s) I complete while you are a Patron at this level.
Goals
$381 of $5,000 per month
Enables me to engage in a full-on writing retreat. What that means for me is that I get 3 weeks away, without kids or other work, to do nothing but focus on finishing up those books.
The dollars allow for me to arrange care for my kid and a humble abode (think, Air BnB efficiency) where I can sink into and luxuriate in the writing life. This is a dream come true.  Some people want to go on cruises or to Europe.  I want to write, uninterrupted from the first cup of morning coffee through the last sip of sleepy-time tea.
