About Kate Christie

Hi! I'm Kate Christie, a writer of all things LGBTQ+. You can find my indie and traditionally published books at Amazon and on my publisher's website. I currently live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my wife of fourteen years, our three young daughters, and the family dog. A couple of years ago, I quit my safe and secure day job (FINALLY!) to write full time. But working as a writer is more about love than money, and anxiety over the next royalty payment is a real thing—not only for me, but for my wife, Kris, too. A fan recently suggested I launch a Patreon to help cover the bills during leaner months, so here we are!

As my banner says, I write LGBTQ+ e-books, paperbacks, and audio books. Technically, I'm just beginning to produce audio books, but I expect to have a handful in distribution by the end of 2019. Assorted friends, mentors, and grad school classmates have suggested I branch out beyond my small niche. But not only do I love writing about queer characters, I also believe that creating stories with happy ever afters for LGBTQ+ people is a radical act, especially in our current culture.

In addition to writing queer romance and general fiction—like my women’s soccer series, Girls of Summer—I’m planning a new series: "Queering the Canon." My first-ever foray into self-publishing involved adapting Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. By taking Austen's original text and adding a few thousand words here, a few thousand words there, I (re)wrote the version of my favorite classic that I wanted to read—Gay Pride and Prejudice. In the near future, I hope to “queerify” more classics, including Emma, Jane Eyre, and Little Women.

Adapting classics and creating original LGBTQ+ fiction doesn't make a whole lot of money, though. And with a permanently disabled spouse and three young children to support... That's where this page comes in. Your financial support will help cover expenses for our family of five—health care premiums, mortgage payments, and even grocery bills on occasion. Your contribution will also help make Kris and me a little less anxious about our current adventures in carpe-dieming.

As one of my supporters, you will receive monthly patron-only updates on my works in progress. Depending on the tier you choose, you will also receive early access to new works, exclusive sneak peeks, free indie backlist titles of your choice, deleted scenes and character notes, and other material from my various writing projects. I’m still figuring this Patreon thing out, so if you have a suggestion about a tier level or benefit, let me know.

Thank you in advance for helping me make my writing dreams a reality—and for letting my wife sleep easier at night. Happy reading!

Kate

Goals
$405.67 of $750 per month
With a guaranteed monthly income--and our monthly medical bills covered--my anxiety will melt away, thus leaving me feeling more creative and energized about my writing. Also, while working from home is great, writing often takes a back burner on days when the kids are sick or home on break. Extra income would eventually let me rent a small office outside our home where I could be more productive--and thus publish more books more regularly.
