Ok. You are a gold star venerable art patron angel -- if you trust me and what I'm making enough to put this kind of regular commitment towards my work you're gonna get some delightful and weird stuff, my friend. *Rubbing hands together, nodding and quietly chuckling in a vaguely maniacal fashion* My imagination is gonna run WILD.

Ok before this starts to sound like a threat:

You will get all the stuff from the first two tiers, plus a shirt once those are produced. If you're supporting me for at least 6 months at this tier, you will get a mixtape (cassette, digital, or whatever non-DSP format you prefer), your name on the credits in my album, a VIP preorder package exclusively available to this tier of patrons, and most likely other stuff. Very open to ideas. You rock.

About

Hello and welcome to my brand new Patreon page. Please come in, make yourself at home and we will keep it casual while I am figuring things out. The model in my banner image is Peanut the cat.

Here are the important points:

1. I am making a record and thus, requesting your patronage.
I am about 75% done with my album. In order to finish it, I will need money. I have a pretty good idea of what this will cost. I've been co-running a record label for almost a decade, butI've stepped away from that work to focus on what I'm making. It's a little scary to be all on my own, but I'm always up for a new challenge. Plus, that's where you come in!

Here's a more detailed breakdown of both costs I need to cover, and places where I'd like to put my money if I had more resources for what I'm making:
-Rent/utilities/groceries: I'm grateful that I've been able to do freelance work from home this year since I'm no longer in a professionally touring band (not that I'd be able to make a living that way during the pandemic, anyway), but often that means I'm working long hours on projects that, while rewarding, keep me from finishing my primary goal. I'd like to keep doing stuff like that (please keep hiring me for remote audio/video production work) but have more financial ability to focus on finishing this album, which doesn't immediately translate to a paycheck while I'm working on it.
-Mastering: (for digital and any other format) I want this album to sound good! Any self-recording musician can tell you that you'll learn a lot about your own work from this process. But I don't want that to carry over into mastering-- I don't know aaanything about this very necessary step, and I got no plans to start right now. So I'd like to send this off to much more capable, experienced hands, ensuring things sound the way they should.
-Graphic design/artwork: (album packaging, formatting digital graphics, possibly music videos or other visual work associated with the album) not as essential as mastering, but I'd  love to have the option to collaborate with other artists in creating the visual communication for this album. I've only ever made my own music videos or worked with bandmates on album art. It'd be fun to hire someone with a different skill set to actualize some ideas that I don't quite have the technical ability to translate out of my head.
-Physical production: (I don't know when live performance will be safe again, and thus I don't think it'd be wise for me to invest my money or yours into pressing vinyl or cds or anything else for the time being. But, I'd like to physically produce this album eventually)
-Release campaign marketing costs: PR, college and/or internet radio promotion, distribution marketing (this means anything from online banners in web stores to window clings in physical record stores... again, the latter is not something I'd invest in until it makes sense) Regardless of when I'm able to promote the album with live shows, I'll need to invest in promoting the album when it is released. I've worked hard on it, and I want people to know it exists.
-Merchandise: this might overlap with the 'artwork' budget depending on the form it takes, but it also includes the wholesale cost of materials used whether they're t-shirts, posters, tube socks, coffee mugs, another idea you as a patron suggest to me (definitely looking for patron input here)
-Collaborators: This album is entirely written and produced by me. At this point, 90% of the performances are me as well, but that's only for practical reasons-- the pandemic makes it pretty hard to play music with other people. Two very generous friends offered to play guitar on a couple tracks, but I'd really like to compensate them for their work and I don't want to ask anybody else if they can play on here without being able to pay them as well. I am totally fine with creating on a budget, I've never really been in a position to do it another way and find it often inspires a lot of creativity ("I dont have money for ____ so instead I'll ___") but: I can't help but occasionally think about what it might sound like if I could hire, say, a harpist I know to add an arrangement to a bridge, or pay a talented friend who is likely also a pandemic cash strapped artist, to interpret something I've written with a MIDI instrument on an analog one remotely from their home. It's not essential, but it'd be nice to have the option.

2. I want to primarily make music, but I am also potentially interested in making other stuff my patrons might like. Cover song requests? Livestreams (pretty sure I'm doing this one)? Monthly (music) radio show/podcast? Fashionable merchandise? Limited edition print publication? Closed circuit patreon-exclusive talk show? Short films? I have some more ideas. What would you, as a patron, like from me? If and when you subscribe, I made my first post about this topic and I'd really like to hear from you.
