Intro:
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for visiting!

I'm Katori Knight - an artist and consultant working in the intersection of performing arts, political psychology, public policy, and immersive experience design. Growing up designing and running a commercial haunted house with my family, I quickly developed a fascination with social science and the synthesis of art, design, and science.

Always working on multiple artworks, I love to create performance pieces, experiences (immersive and otherwise), wall art, sculpture, pieces of writing, songs, videos, costumes, and more! For my performances, I work most often in the mediums of burlesque, drag, clowning, and tactical frivolity.

I am fascinated with using popular mediums (like humor and sexuality) to discuss and engage the audience in heavier and more complicated topics. The pieces I create tend to focus on social issues and usually incorporate narrative and interactive elements. Some topics of previous works include: community building, gender, trauma, addiction, alternative relationships, bystander apathy, toxic masculinity, and vulnerability.

With the larger goal of increasing intergroup and interpersonal connection and compassion, I incorporate psychological principles into my designs and interactions to achieve more effective results - drawing on my experiences as a psychology researcher and tutor.

  • Materials
  • Equipment and software
  • Distribution
  • Venue costs

  • Extra training required

Why Help? Assuming you need more reasons beyond enjoying what I create ;)
As a disabled performer (I have physical, mental, and learning disabilities), working enough to make disposable income for my art is extremely difficult. In 2018, after gaining a reputation for consistently taking on too much work, I became very sick and received two new diagnoses in October. Having the time and ability on top of a day job to actually make the art can be even more difficult with these new illnesses.

Your contributions help me to work less at a day job and  *more* on creating the art you enjoy more, thereby also helping my treatment and health while I work with professionals to get better.

Thanks so much for your time and I hope you have an awesome day!
