my name is courtney coles and i'm a photographer based in los angeles. in 2019 i received my mfa in photography & media from california institute of the arts and since graduation i have been trying to find the balance between freelance work and my art practice.

my longest project is my photo booth series. what started as a way to document my first year outside of college grew into a series that has given me the space to explore my autonomy and interrogate the systems at hand. for the first 7 years of the project i frequented analog photo booths at least once a month, but in april 2020 i brought the photo booth home out of compliance with los angeles' stay-at-home orders.

at its core, my practice centers around themes of longing, belonging and dissecting the various ways that people, places and memories are home. my photographs are a love letter to and about the people and places in them and they act as a visual diary.

your support would help me fund ongoing projects and continue living as a working artist. your support will also help me not feel as though i'm shouting into the void. i'm a loud person, but my photographs are anything but.

patrons will receive access to my works in progress including my monthly photo booth confessions and photographs from my visual diary. to open up the dialogue with my work, i will be sharing my process and offering up my skills and knowledge to those who want to engage with me. a lot gets lost in the endless scroll, but know that if you're a patron of mine, you won't have to worry about missing another photograph.
