"A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality."

Yoko Ono

Dear Dreamers,

If you can imagine it, you can create it. If you can draw it, you can make it. I believe this to be true for physical things and the world at large, but also it is true for your inner world, the place where your own reality is created.

There are so many questions, many of which cannot be answered. There is so much to learn in our quest to know that we know nothing. It could get depressing - if we did not have each other and the light which each of us has. When these lights come together and make sparks it is like the difference between a dull smog covered night sky and the twinkling magical blackness of the sky above Kerry on a clear winter night. If you know what I mean.

You know my work. You have seen my website.

If you are here you are looking to join a small group of people who will be working with me directly on becoming more successful dreamers. This means bringing your dreams into reality where they are necessary and needed.

"The opposite of War is not Peace, it is Creation".

If you can imagine it, you can create it. If you can draw it, you can make it.

If you can imagine it, you can build it.(Leonardo da Vinci sketch)

What I offer:

1. For Young People

The Master Builders

Named after the Lego Movie, if you have not seen it, it features the Lego people who build according to the instructions and the Master Builders who make new and amazing things with the bricks available. Obviously our children are Master Builders.

In the movie these creative people have been sent into hiding by the Government and all creative constructions are demolished. The world is populated with people who follow the rules and have no real individuality. At one point Emmet, one of the 'build according to instructions guys' teams up with the Master Builders to defeat evil. He channels their creativity into a constructive plan and this is how the problems get solved.

Anyway, I'll let you draw your own conclusions, but my first set of co-creators will consist of two groups of 5 Young People (6 years +) who will unfold their amazing creative selves through 4 creative projects. These Masters of Creativity are bursting with ideas, but are too often curtailed in their brilliance by the mundane world of adults. They may have started to become frustrated with the gap between their vision and their skill. Or they may be perfecting the Art of depicting life through bug-eyed emojis to the detriment of other skills (emojis have their place but we need to open things up a bit).

These people are brilliant and when gently guided are a force to be reckoned with. Does your child love making things, drawing things, spinning stories? Would you like these amazing skills to remain intact and be nurtured? Then this is the group for them. This is so much more than an Art class.

The 4 Projects

I have set our school up to run for 12 months, 4 projects of 3 months. You pay a monthly subscription of $85 (ca. 75Euro) (this website operates in dollars) and you can discontinue at any time. The places are strictly limited to 10 children in total.

The projects are:

1. Symbolic Self Portraiture
2. Creative/ Fantasy Photography
3. Abstract Art
4. Environmental Art

Each project will teach the person new skills, while using the skills that they have. They will be working as an Artist works, and the skills they have will increase as they enjoy being in the process. So there are no beginners. There are Artists working together. Artists are always learning.

We will do three monthly technical classes with a strong focus on drawing. In addition one longer weekend session per month in which we bring the project together.

Each Project will culminate in a piece of Art which will be interesting, poignant and grow in significance as time passes.

The children will learn to cultivate the habits of an Artist and a Creative Attitude.

1. Symbolic Self Portrait

This project is based on my unique Dress Portraits technique in which I illustrate a photograph of a person's dress with symbols depicting their life and loves, however in this case your child becomes the illustrator.

For your child this will mean choosing an item of clothing or an artifact (a favourite toy, image, woolly jumper, pair of boots, flower etc) which I will photograph and print out.

In our weekly technical classes we will work on teasing out our favourite things, the things which make us happy and colour who we are.  We will learn to translate them into symbols which we can draw or represent on the paper in some way. I will guide the person in putting together their symbolic portrait which will become a treasured Artwork for you, (or them, you may have to fight about it).

2. Creative Photography

This is another of my own favourite techniques. For this we will be using our drawing and symbolic skills to plan a fantasy photoshoot with the child as protagonist. This Project will involve planning the story and then creating the backdrop and costumes with which we will tell the story.  For each project I will be contracting in an Artist for one of the monthly weekend sessions who specializes in a different way in one of the skills we are building. For this I will bring in someone who will work with us on simple and effective costuming and on how to express ideas through your body when posing. I will be bringing your child's imaginary world out and helping them to manifest it in a simplified and visually meaningful way.

3. Abstract Art

Abstract art is open to interpretation, and that is one of the beautiful things about it. Abstract art gives you the freedom to explore a subject with a different set of senses and skills, creating your own meaning in a piece. Understanding abstract art is fun: all it requires is an open mind and a big imagination.

After a few months of representational Art it will be great to let go and breathe and get into a different headspace. People think that abstract Art is easy, but as we all know creating simplicity, wordlessness, visual poetry is all but easy. Many Artists end up at Abstraction after a long career of learning their visual language. It is a culmination. Abstract Artists are the poets of the visual world.

4. Environmental Art

For the final project we will be taking all that we have learned into nature and apply our skills to the appreciation of the greatest Cathedrals ever built, the woods, the grasses, the sky. Using drawing, painting, photography and ourselves we shall explore how to worship nature with our Creativity, also taking into account our impact on the environment.

Mentoring for Adults

Through my Artwork I get to know you and tell your story. This is a very perfect, meaningful and creative Act in itself. However, this process takes a few weeks and then it is over.  Being a creative adult at this time is not easy and there is nothing to it but to join forces. I know from my own experience how easy it is to dream alone and how difficult it can be to make these dreams real, alone.

It is all well and good being a 'starving artist' when you are single and you can be flexible about when and where you live, eat and sleep. But with age and with children it becomes a lot more complicated. Have you ever experienced dependency? We will all in our lives move through different processes and qualities of dependency and independence. Those who are independent support those who are dependent. It is as simple as that. We are all interdependent. Thank goodness.

I never imagined how difficult it would to be dependent until I became a mother. When I gave birth I not only acquired dependents, I also became a dependent slowly, over time, in subtle ways, as my old way of working became incompatible with my job as a parent.

I feel now that instead of telling our kids to save for their children's education we should be telling them to save in case they want to be fully available for their children's early years. I will be honest in saying I never thought about how I would pay for staying at home with my children. I always thought I would work. And I have been working, but my work does not have a regular income.

As a mother and artist in this society (a society which is increasingly economically geared towards two-salary households), I now have a second job with no salary. A second full time job in which I have to fundraise for my own position or depend on my partner for a salary. If any mother or father starts a Patreon page to fund themselves while they are raising their kids, in return for whatever rewards, I would soo love to fund them. I might just do that as an art project.
Anyway sisters and brothers, this issue is not going away, and I will give as good as I get. That's a promise. I love you.

Consider this tier commissioning the artwork and paying for it in advance.

  • Along with all the other rewards you can be my model for an artwork or work with me on an image. We can talk about it.
  • A large scale gallery print of your choice from the new collection.

Thank you, sincerely.
The Freedom Tier
$500 or more per month
If you pay this amount per month, you will cover my rent. I will so to speak, be mortgage free (without owning the house at the end). We live in a house with my sister and her family. It is economical and interesting, the way artists like it.
If you do this I will feel incredibly free. Incredibly grateful. And much much stronger.
Particularly because I will know that you will be receiving something of great quality in return. One of my finished artworks, which will have taken hundreds of hours of concentration to complete. You will be able to choose from the originals as they come out, and they will only be shown to my patrons. Everyone else will have to wait for the show at the end to see the finished products.
Basically you are paying for one of these massive hand coloured tapestries of colour by installment and you get first dibs. And i get to pay my rent.
Win Win??

Thank you !!!!

You also receive all of the rewards above.
Goals
5 of 24 patrons
I've got the go ahead. I can build my first installation, take photos of it and start colouring. Thank you. As I approach this goal I will work on smaller arrangements to get clearer on the atmosphere I would like to create in the images and also create images for you to colour. Ieeeee!!!
