I was 18 years old, four months pregnant and held my toddler tight as my husband was shipping off to the Iraq War.

I cried and I yelled and I begged God to send him home. I carried a heavy heart day after day and it was then that I realized, I was lost.

It was easy when he was there. I could concentrate on him, blame him when things went wrong, but once he was gone, I only had myself. The problem was not him, my past or even the fact that I had children right after high school. The problem was that I didn't know who I was and I was deeply uncomfortable with...    ME

From birth, I had lived for my parents, getting straight A's, being silent when spoken to and molding myself to be great in their eyes. And as soon as I graduated, I started living for my husband and then my children, my boss, and soon I had nothing left for myself. I felt empty.

Who was I? What was my purpose?

I knew I was powerful. I knew I could be something great. "If I could just catch a break and find my way," I kept saying. It was there. I just didn't know how to tap into it, I just didn't have the courage to be myself or pursue what I wanted in life...until this one day changed my entire life.

A couple of days passed and I had yet to call her. I didn't call her back after the movies, I was too busy. I didn't call her the next day either, it skipped my mind, but she called me.

Her number blazed through the LED screen and it made me smile. My heart lifted just a bit and I couldn't wait to hear her voice. She was always on time. If she hadn't heard from me in a while, she'd pick up the phone and call to make sure I was okay. I wasn't okay. I had just spent the last couple of nights crying myself to sleep. How did she know? How did she know that something tragic had happened to her daughter?

I stepped inside. The phone rang again. I answered it.

"Ma! I am so sorry I forgot to call you b--"

"This is Malika," the voice said.

I checked the number, then paused.

"Dee," she said, her voice trembling. "Your mother is dead. They are trying to resuscitate her."

Her words snatched the breath straight out of my body. My knees crashed to the wooden floor and I didn't feel a thing. I forgot where I was. I'd completely lost my mind.

The day I saw my mother lying in that bed, unable to speak, move or breathe on her own, a strong woman who would give every single drop of herself, yet was abandoned when she needed people the most, was when I decided, I would fight for me.

Like her, all I wanted to do was make others happy. I wanted to be the perfect mother, perfect wife and leave little or nothing for myself, but seeing her at the brink of death changed it all.

I would fight to find my purpose. I would find my story, write my story and inspire the world. I would then break the cycle. I'd teach my children how to love themselves first, nurture their passion and use their superpower to make a difference in this world. No more excuses. No more complaining. I would come up with a plan, execute it and become the person I was meant to be.

So, I did. I started writing inspirational books.  I became a bestseller.

I was invited to speak at high schools, middle schools and host a big event at an elementary school.

And then I started speaking to adults and mentoring youth.

And then I started sharing my ideas online.

And then homeschooling because I believed that if I could live a free life doing what I loved, so should my children.

But it was a process. It took years of failing, years of heartbreak and pain, but I am now living in my purpose.

TODAY, MY MISSION IS TO:

  • Teach hurt people how to transform their deepest pain into their purpose      AND

  • Teach parents how to create a strong bond with their children, identify and nurture their child's gift and show them the power of self love.

And this is why I started this Patreon page.

Yes, I am an author, but there is so much more that I want to do. I sell books online and I do book signings, but I would like more time to invest in people who are struggling with finding themselves. For I know, this is the key to life. I've spent my last to get to this point, either with sacrificing time or money that I didn't even have. But at the end, it was worth it and now I want to share those gems and experiences with others.

I deeply desire to give a lot more to the world, but like my mother, if I don't ask for help and just give, give, give, it will take a toll on me mentally, physically and my ability to produce from the heart.

Again, this is why this page is so important to me.

Your support for this page will help me free up time and energy and ultimately concentrate on   sharing everything I've learned, from finding my purpose, nurturing and empowering my children, to writing, publishing and using my gift to inspire the world instead of worrying about pushing books. I will still sell book, write books, but teaching and mentoring from the heart could be my major focus.

I offer premium services that are priced at value, but may be too expensive for the very people I long to help, so I created tiers low enough so that most people could afford it and high enough to where I still can still invest in my own family.

The tiers will be based off of your particular needs, but ultimately anyone should be able to afford my lowest tier to access my growing knowledge and strategies.

As this page gains traction, I will be adding many perks. After all, I am a giver and I enjoy adding value to the lives of those who support me. I will do giveaways to add value to your children, personal videos specifically for teens as well as  give opportunities for patrons to participate in writing contests and free critiques.

If you've ever run across any of my videos, you know I love to build. So let's build this thing together and start a movement that will change the next generation!
