Kidnapped for Dinner is creating Conversations

When I launched Kidnapped for Dinner at the beginning of 2017, I was still making sense of a personal experience that summoned up my doubts and questions as a creative professional. When I was faced with a divorce in 2015, I was not only breaking from a relationship, but from a creative partnership and a part of my life in which I was starting to define myself creatively. I felt like the rug was pulled out from under me.

In the midst of this experience, I became a project manager at a branding & design studio, where I was able to get on my feet while immersing myself in a creative environment. Among many things, I learned of the importance of uncovering and sharing stories, personal or public, in order to share our unique value and to communicate authentically with one another.

Kidnapped for Dinner was at once a response to the question of my creative purpose and, in some ways, a continuation of what I was learning at the studio. I craved stories from and conversations with other creatives about the disorienting moments and not-so-sexy experiences that give them pause or lead them to question themselves and their pursuits. I wanted to find a more robust image of living a creative life and to understand the ways in which we strive to be our true selves.

After over a year of interviews with artists, musicians, restaurateurs, designers and other professionals, I want to do more with KD.

If you find KD’s conversations insightful, encouraging or just plain entertaining, please consider supporting the show through a monthly subscription.

The show will always remain free. However, extra financial support means I can work toward the following:

  • Producing more shows per month, which means dedicating more time to meeting with potential guests, research, promoting/recording/editing/sharing the show
  • Upgrading recording equipment and acquiring equipment for video and photography
  • Traveling with the show to continue featuring diverse perspectives and compelling stories

I have to admit, I was scared to ask for your support, perhaps due to Imposter Syndrome, insecurity and inexperience. But in true KD fashion, let’s get (un)comfortable, together.

Thank you!
